Airbag light DOESN'T illuminate

Hi all

Just had my car in for it's MOT and it failed on airbag light not illuminating on turn of ignition.
I've only had the car a couple of months, does anyone know where I should start to try and find the issue/where the fuse is so I can check. I would hope previous owner hasn't actually removed the bulb or something.

2003 A4 B6 2.0L CVT.

Take the clocks out only 2 screws holding the unit in, the bulb is a SMD so can't be removed but I would say the previous owner has put tape on the back of the dial card or covered the bulb over in silicone.
 
Thanks for the reply Jay, I will try what you said after work tonight, however last night I plugged in VCDS and tried to connect to the air bag system and there was no comms. I'm guessing a fuse has been pulled somewhere. Anyone know the fuse layout for these things?
