Are all b5 subframes the same?
Just noticed a large rust hole whilst removing the steering rack

there are differences between 4 cylinder and v6 ones.

The v6 one fits the 4 cylinder car but you need the V6 nearside gearbox mount as well. Not tried the other way round.

2.5 should be the same.

Support engine and trans from above. Remove lower control arms. Detatch engine mounts. Unbolt frame and drop it out.

Is the a6 97 - 01 v6 subframe the same? They look very similar

yep should be, the A6 uses the outer set of holes, the A4 uses the inner set where the control arms mount.

folk really charging that much? thats mental for a bit of pressed steel thats littering scrapyards.

I didnt even bother taking mine off the last B5 i scrapped.

There looks to be two different styles of subframe, not just in the transmission mountings, I paid £25 delivered for an A6 V6 subframe so it was easier to fit the V8, the top subframe is the original and the A6 V6 subframe is different on the front crossbar it is lower and gives more clearance for the sump. I have also seen this style listed as an A4 subframe.

Putting a level across the front mountings and measuring to the crossbar showed the difference in clearance

A6 V8 Subframe - 98mm
A4 1.8T (top in picture) - 86mm
A6 V6 (bottom in picture) - 105mm

yeh the v6 frames have more clearance around the sump, and different gearbox mountings for the nearside exhaust. A6 and A4 V6 frames are the same part number.

Annoyingly, the A6 V8 frame only has the outer A6 holes, they didnt bother drilling the inner ones for the A4 fitment on the V8 frames :(
