Probably this will confuse me more, but last week as @audinutter will know I ordered an RS3 saloon. Due to the fact the dealer had no allocations left and the fact that I am hoping my S3 negative equity will decrease between now and then (but who knows it could also increase) I won’t be getting the car until at least March.

The order probably hasn’t even been submitted to the factory but this is what I went for:

Audi code: AGEB2WKN

RS3 saloon

Nardo with Matt aluminium pack

SS seats with red stitching
Piano roof
Matrix Lights
Full driver assistance pack (and all associated options in that category)
Comfort and sound pack (B&O sound, Hill hold assist, Reversing camera, keyless)
Folding and dimming mirrors

I did not select the sports exhaust or mag ride. It has standard wheels too.

With all those options it’s lust price is 50,750. ROTR 52,235. Monthly payments come to £750 and my deposit is around £5,000. However I’ll have a substantial payment for the negative equity on the S3.

So with all that information;

I’m not sure about the colour; that is something I could afford to change...

I’m not sure about the sports exhaust or mag ride or non red brakes or even the interior trim but all those will increase the list price by at least £3000 which is too much. Maybe without the neg equity I’d increase the deposit to keep payments down but the other car limits options.

So colour choices? Thoughts on options? Thanks.

Sports Exhaust is a must dude.

At the very least to help with resale down the track. Aint no body gonna wanna buy a used RS3 with no sports exhaust vs another that has one.

I would pick black optics with Nardo, general consensus seems to be that but it's a personal choice.

Also I would choose sports exhaust and magnetic ride over driver's assistance. With the kind of car the RS3 is I would rather have sportier options over tech options if I had to pick one. You hear the sports exhausts every time you drive but you aren't likely to use say ACC every time.

Ditch all tech and comfort etc. Get sports exhaust as a must, black optics and black wheels.

Price is ridiculous on the saloon.

I generally do not like the silver 'optics', especially on the rear, but this is a personal thing.

Is the Piano Roof a new option? Did not know there was a Top Gear Edition! Hahaha.

I do not have any of the driver assist stuff, as has been said the sports exhaust and mag ride are much more "valuable" in an RS than the things that will help if you want to do everything else except drive...

Personally I think these assist packages are creating the class of "drivers" we have now.

@Spinstorm - I ordered my new FL at Stratford Upon avian Audi on Saturday. They have a Nardo with black pack, pretty much fully loaded coming through for September. Could be a way for you to get into one a bit quicker. If it was black i would have had it.

From my drive, I would spend money on nicer wheels. The ones I saw were horrific in the flesh - shocking.

Sports exhaust.. well, I would but I like extra noise. If you want a more refined, quieter sports car then don't bother.

Agreed - the assistance packages are making drivers of today lazy and are defo not needed on a car like the RS3.
Save the cash on that and get muse haves like the Sports Ex, and some decent wheels.
As for colour, Nardo is not for me but if your are getting it then go for black pack as it looks alright.

You guys are talking about the new stock alloys for the sedan?

I quite like them with gloss black inlays on my car. They aren't the most 'special' looking wheels but they fit the sedan nicely I think. I definitely prefer them to the rotors which looks kind of boy racer-ish to me.

Ha, yeah. True. This car is a Boy Racer car though!
It is a loud, fast hatchback with extra body bits after all.

Grown-ups will get the RS4, 5, 6 or 7 :)

We're talking the saloon/sedan here, it's not a hatch!

I see what you're saying but to me the RS3 is a step above your typical boy racer cars like GTI/Rs, STIs and the like.

I have to have the driver assistance features- I drive lots for my work and having the ability to stay safe as much as possible is what I need.

I’d point out that Traffic Jam Assist basically makes your car self-driving (for about 15 seconds anyway). Super helpful.

If I didn’t need those safety features I would add in the exhaust, better wheels, mag ride and red calipers and the aluminum race trim - but that extra 3k will add either £60 to my £750 payments a month - or mean I have to front load those onto my desposit. And honestly I would do that happily but I am looking at having to put around £13,000 total down when I trade in my S3 to cover negative equity and the deposit. And I am not sure I can save that much by next March as it is...! So last thing I want to do is add an extra 2-3K on top. But I have decided I will visit the dealer and ask him to do the maths on those changes and see.

I do feel like things like the wheels and brake calipers can easily be changed in the future (the RS3 wheels are all around £700 - no matter which one you want separately) and getting brake calipers painted isn’t going to cost too much.

Right now what I am leaning towards is changing to the black pack (at no extra cost) and adding the sports exhaust (and taking the extra £20 pm hit) as I do agree on resale statements regarding the exhaust.

I'm glad I'm a cash buyer, I'd hate to have to keep getting the calculator out and swapping things around to try and meet the budget - but can appriciate wanting something so bad you keep at it................ I am getting on (57) which is why I'm a cash buyer :readit:

I wanted to post a comment similar to this recently but couldn't find the picture which highlighted the issue so much for me (still can't). I know we all have our choices and my going for ceramic brakes has caused some concern........

The picture I'd seen was of a blue SB FL with the Aluminium pack and what I thought was :puke2:was the silver line going around the square section around each of the exhaust pipes. The picture was quite dark and it made it look like the two silver lined boxes were the exhausts, as you can image it made it look like a joke car, something off Top Gear's wind ups or something!!

On the front, I think either pack works depending on the colour.

All just my 2p worth :)

Here are some fantastic Nardo and black pack photos from twitter...

I have amended my order to the black pack and added the sports exhaust. To be fair I am happy with that.

I can always change the wheels or get the calipers painted later.
