Any suggestions on decent Gel 3d type reg plates - I see them around on eBay etc but so many options don't know what to look for in terms of quality etc..

@fullhousecustoms on Instagram are probably the best about. I've bought 4 sets off them and the quality is incredible

http://www.dmb.uk.com/ gets my vote every time!

If you want 'different' spacing or sizing then contact them and they might be able to sort you out still ;)

£28-£30 ones on eBay are great, bought loads and my set have lasted through 3 cars and still look good. My criteria is the smallest postcode on the bottom as possible. Need a postcode to be legal.

Postcode? Never new that you needed to have a postcode on your plate.. as in your home postcode?

As above, you need the post code of the facility that the plate was printed at. Without that and the BS codes, it can all be correct but still illegal. It needs to have traceability and confirmation that it meets legislation.

DMB ones I mentioned are great for that. They write it really small.

I went with UltraTek from Hills Number Plates, not gel but I think they look pretty cool.

Got some new plates - anyone got any advice on whether its ok to use the provided sticky pads to secure the plates, will look nicer but not sure if I trust them, or should I drill out the holes and screw on?

Never drill plates! I stick them everytime.

As long as the pads are decent they won't come off.

Who did you use in the end to supply the plates?

The thing I am most worried about is getting them level which seems easier with screws?

I've seen a lot of crooked ones screwed on! I tend to measure it up and put some masking tape in place in the edges/bottom then stick it on

Dead easy mate, put a bit of tape running down from the centre of the Audi rings to where the plates will sit, then measure to the centre of the plates and put another bit of tape on them. Then just line the two pieces of tape up and you know that you are central! As for the horizontal level, before you take the old ones off (if they are level) just put a piece of masking tape along the bottom on the paintwork as your guide :) or just use your eyes/judgement :)
