B7 undertrays..

Is it me or do all B7 models have just the most suckass undertray/bellypans?!?

I bought mine with no front bellypan, and last night on the dual carriageway the mid section of it gave way and scraped all the way until such time i was slowed down enough to actually hear it scraping.

Why do B7's suffer such rubbish undertrim its ****** annoying. happened on my old avant too.
And it aint asif its cheap to replace and screw back on due to price and wearing of the attatchments ***.

Just how important are these parts? a certain amount of element protection and noise dampening but would you replace it?
Basically the engine bay underneath and gearbox is exposed underneath now. worth faffing about for or not?

On a lighter note...does anyone on here own the Mugello blue B7 RS 4 that lives in thorpe Marriott, Norwich? Spotted her on my patrols last night, what a beauty???

I don't have a problem with the undertray. What I do have a problem with is the stupid screws they use.

They are actually quite good on the S4. The dzus fasners have to be locked to be secure. Quite hard to do when the car is on the ground as you really need to put some force into it. When on the lift its a piece of p. Quite expensive to replace though! Speaking of, I had my trays off yesterday and put them in the parts washer (decided to clean off all the years of old oil and crap from the bottom of the engine). Put them back on and somehow lost one one the fastners! There is a gremlin or something in my garage which steals parts or tools all the dam time!

I bought the screw fastener kit on eBay and it was 10 screws and 10 screw faseners for £11.99. My Machanic was working on car last week and said to me you did some job with new screws on undertray it's like it just came out of factory. Took 15mins removing lot on driveway then adding new screws and refitting

The screws are sacrificial, if the under tray is removed for service or repair reasons then the screws should be replaced, Audi main dealer would do this.

The 2nd panel will remove itself eventually if the front one is not fitted as airflow rips it off eventually, they are designed to be all fitted preventing the air under the vehicle ripping them off.

A lot of home mechanics and some 3rd party garages leave them off thinking they are doing the owner a favor and making it easier next time but this is not a good idea as the 2nd ( middle) cover will be ripped off eventually and the covers keep the noise down as well as helping airflow under the vehicle reducing drag and saving fuel.

sorted mine with this, mine was missing when i bought the B7 and I went through 2 on my B6 due to snow.

I bought a dieselgeek ali panzer plate,i did have it fitted but it didnt fit the s line properly due to deeper bumper and thicker front arb,it was noisy ,i will put it back on after i have modded it to fit properly to help protect the sump from fecking speed bumps.

Try and buy OEM as some of the copies are really pish.....Thank God for cable ties!.....Crapped myself last Summer when my under pan ( Big Front bit ) decided to say goodbye to me at 130kmh!.....Wasn't a pleasant experience!

I've installed 2mm steel undertray (sump guard) on my audi a4 b7 3.0 tdi like on photo above.

I have had exactly the same issue when one of the local Indys didn't fit it properly and the next thing I know is that horrible sound of something rubbing

So, go to TPS and buy the OEM, buy the screws from eBay exactly the link @ruairi83 shared. Car goes in for an interim service two weeks ago, we go to London last night with wife behind in her car and the next thing I notice is the effin thing hanging again. That's £100 down the drain for the same Indy not fixing it properly.

Cable ties is next rather than screws imho.

I also have a steel sump guard, with the extension part to also cover the gearbox. My plastic ones literally fell off

Nice, do they weigh a fair bit or around the same as the plastic one's? Hard to tell from pictures whether they're quite thick or not.

Where did you get yours from?

I lost my gearbox one off my DTM at 50mph and saw it fly into a farmers field in two pieces. The curse of having a car that's in the weeds

. At least it didn't do any damage on the way out

Guess that's a good point if a metal one is flimsy and gets cut in half it could do a fair bit of damage.

I'm very interested in the weight and thickness compared to the OEM plastic one's.

It weighs a fair bit to be honest! Quite a lot more than the plastic ones. If your putting it back on with the car in the air you'd probs need two people.

Its attached via nuts and bolts as opposed to chocolate, and won't come loose anytime soon. Theres also an inspection hole so you can drop your oil.
