Yep, in the last 3 hours my s3 has been stolen. The ***** have smashed the patio doors and taken the key. I think I'm most gutted that my GAP ran out about 6 weeks ago.

If anyone lives in the Huddersfield area be aware as there is apparently a spate of this going on at the moment. Fingers crossed the car is never found as I don't want it back.

****** hell, this is getting horrendous now :'( Did they not wake you up?!

Are the Police out trying to find it?! Did they smash your patio doors or bust open? If smashed then that's me decided on getting anti-breakage film on all downstairs windows.

Thrown a huge stone through the door glass. The other half was awake putting our18 month old back to sleep. The smashing woke me up but they were in an out in seconds.

It's horrendous, so sorry to hear this but I am even more relieved your family are safe. Were your keys somewhere visible to be gone so quick?

I was going to ask for your reg, but if you don't want it found then maybe it's best not to.

Certainly don't want it find. My main concern is the family is alright hence why the keys are left downstairs in the kitchen.

Fingers crossed the car will eventually turn up wrapped round a tree.

Keep us updated with what the Police say. Are they pretty quick to respond or can't they be bothered?

Looking into buying better locks tomorrow and a company for the window film now.

Hopefully with the thieving scumbags badly injured inside. That said, its only a car after all, thankfully you and your family are safe.

Aren't you still living at home? How do the parents feel about you upgrading everything for them? lol

To the OP, sorry to hear that mate but as said above the main thing is that you and the family are ok, cars and windows can be replaced. Such a shame you can't have anything nice without fear of some a-hole feeling they have the right to takenitnaway from you!

Yep I am, which makes me even more determined to make sure the house is as safe as possible. I can't afford to be doing it now with the new car coming in 3 months, but if I spend a couple hundred quid and my family and car are safe then I can live with that.

I think that sums it up tom, it's more the point of what right do they have. I work hard to buy nice things for myself. Anyone knows time knows how obsessed I am with my cars and looking after them, however I'm not that concerned about losing it, more bothered about being out of pocket replacing it.

Have they said if they are going to go out searching streets or just monitor ANPR? I'm curious how motivated they are with these calls.

I think it's a wait and see if they come across anything. They were requesting cctv from a local office to see if they could see anything.

Even with all the security in the world if they really want they are going to get it and if children/loved ones are in danger its a no brainer for me take it

Cars can be replaced, family's (and post trauma stress) are more difficult to manage.

Glad you and the family are ok.

No tracking device fitted?

Can only echo what others have said, and hope they wrap it around a tree, while they are in it.

Sad days :concern::concern::concern:

OP, glad the family and yourself are OK - as others have said - hopefully the tw@t5 wrap the car/themselves around a tree.

The Met police (after we had a break in/disturbed by the alarm) Next day they were knocking on neighbors house asking for a copy of their CCTV. Sounds like West Yorkshire Police are as pro-active.

Chin up/look after those nearest and dearest - plus yourself !!

Couple of days afterwards I knocked on about 4 houses in my area - (all of whom have S/RS's) and let them know the situation (a S5 had been stolen a couple of weeks previous in the next village / recovered after being parked up nearby)

Obviously not a nice way to meet fellow S/RS owners - but rather they know/take extra care/precautions - than lose their car.

@Palacemads3 so sorry to be reading this. Yet another S3 stolen. I'm glad you and the family were not harmed. I hope the people that stole your car do wrap themselves round a tree, though even that is to good for them. These people really are the scum of the world we live in. They take take take and don't contribute anything good to society. We work hard to have nice cars and other things and they rarely get caught. It's just so wrong.

With regards to to what the police do, it can be very limited.

Officer numbers are incredibly low and it is unlikely that swarms of officers would be out looking for the car as forces can be carrying hundreds of live calls for service at anyone time.

In this type of event the thieves know what they are doing. They will be wearing gloves, so no fingerprints, hooded up so if in the event someone may have CCTV they won't be seen.

A false number plate will be on the car in a matter of minutes, so it won't be picked up on ANPR cameras.

It is unlikely in these incidents to ever catch who is responsible.

The car is probably stolen to order and will end up in a chop shop and stripped within a day or shipped off abroad in containers.

The main thing is the original poster is safe.

Ultimately the last thing these thieves want is to be caught.

Home security is of importance CCTV, lighting, steering locks to act as a deterrent to make it to risky to do.

However, if ever faced with this situation simply hand the cars over and do not chase. Your life is more important than a car.

Awful to hear this but hopefully it shows up soon. It's good you and your family are safe though as that would be the worst thing. Like others have said, cars can be replaced whereas damage to loved ones is harder to deal with. Good luck!

Another one close to where I live!

This is fast becoming a major problem and I've been worried about it ever since getting mine.

I'm coveting the RS3 for my next car, but if 'm honest, I'm starting to wonder if I want such an attractive set of wheels anymore!

It makes me so mad...

No help to current situation but get Autowatch Ghost on the next one as it can't be driven away even with the keys.

To the OP Palacemads3 - We had a break in last week in the night.

Exactly the same method - smashed a paving slab through full length glass door but I disturbed them and the keys weren't where they thought. Also in West Yorkshire and clearly to order as they could have had my wifes car but left it...

Shocking that they are willing to go so far. Police were excellent though and arrived asap

Do people leave their keys out in the open in the house?
I usually hide my keys so it would take them much longer than a few seconds to find them.

At which point they grab a kitchen knife and start threatening you or your family. Not worth it for a car.

I won't say as stupidly obvious as on a window sill or hanging within reach of the letterbox, but I don't hide them / take them upstairs with me.

Sorry mate, gutted for you.
Cars are replaceable (easy to say I know) but it's the trauma of your personal property being invaded by these parasites that's hard to stomach.
Hope you get sorted and that they catch these w*****s!

I'm far more wary these days of any suspicious vehicles that seem to drive around our estate without any real purpose... I'm wondering if they are scoping out houses. Our drive has two new Audi's on it(although mine is garaged asap) so I do feel like a target.

I understand what people are saying regarding taking extra precautions, but it's just so sad that it's got to this point.

Cars have always been the target of thieves, but the way things are now and the threat I(we) feel our families face is very unsettling. Particularly when this is due to the type of car we choose to own!

We had a Bentley stolen the other day whilst I was working, it was recovered within a few hours, parked up in a street several miles away. The Police will have circulated it and anyone who is out, will be keeping an eye out for it. The more proactive traffic patrols will go to locations which they know are used to dump cars, hence why we found the Bentley so quick.

It all depends why this was stolen, a lot of Audi's are used as getaway vehicles, because they are fast and have AWD. We currently have around 12 vehicles we are looking for, all on false plates and that's just in my small county (that number increases as the weeks go on)

It's not easy to locate stolen motors, they blend in day to day driving, or are parked in side streets and used at night for jobs.

If I was there OP, I would be out looking around the local estates, as it may be parked up within 10 mile radius.

Sorry to hear that mate, hope those thiefs hit a concrete wall and die... they don't deserves to be alive as they don't understand how's it like breaking into someone's and crossing lines

Glad you and your family are all ok
Hopes things get sorted quickly

You should consider installing some cctv around your house so next time those ******** don't bother at all

Sorry to hear this! I’m with you on the key front though, easy to find so they don’t have to come looking where my family are.

Sorry to hear this, sad times but glad you and your family are safe. Afraid CCTV won't stop this sort of thing. My friend had his 6 month old Golf R stolen off his drive last week. 4 men broke into his house through the back door, took the keys, pushed it off the drive then drove it off. Car used to get to his house was on cloned plates. All this on CCTV and of no use in preventing the theft. However the CCTV proved it was a real crime as he was questioned as to whether it was an inside job.

Very sorry to hear this. I hope they find it. I always keep my keys on me.

I would say one benefit of keyless is that you never have to remove the key from your pocket.

I don’t think these thieves are interested in armed robbery - if they can’t reach the keys they will leave.

Thanks for all the comments from everyone. I will be looking at CCTV, even if it is just to help catch someone in future. However, I won't be changing my key habits. Scenes of Crime this morning suggested I should be leaving the keys upstairs at the top of the stairs but that's coming too close to my kids in my opinion. As several have said, family comes first.

My biggest annoyance is that my GAP insurance expired 5 weeks ago. The value left on the car to pay is £19900, the GAP would have topped me back up to £38000, an incredible deposit and probably enough for next years holiday!
