Google Earth map excessive loading

Yup, any audi vehicle that uses google maps is more than likely to have this issues, as audi have admitted...

I realised the reason Google Maps worked fine in my RS3 was as it was connecting to my phone provider via SIM card.
I've put the SIM card in my S5 for now and Google Maps is working again.
So if its of any help to anyone this appears to be an Audi Connect problem and is nothing to do with Google Earth Maps servers.

So today's twist on the Google Maps saga - the basic default Audi Map loads up but in a colour scheme that I take to be night mode.

Google box on the MMI is showing so I take it that Google maps has loaded.

Toggling Maps preference between Google Maps/Traffic/Standard makes no difference I still have the bog standard map in strange colours.

I thought maybe Android Auto was connecting Google maps from my phone as that seems to give an insipid colour scheme, but I'd not got phone with me.

Driverline contacted and the dealer will need to have the car for a day to diagnose, and local dealer hasn't space for a month. Personally I'm still of the opinion the fault is with the Audi / Google server so having the car is a waste of my time.

Are others still having Google maps issues?

Yes I'm still having issues - this must be an Audi Connect / Cubic issue as impacting so many cars and ChrisH has proved it's not Google. I'm. connecting with 3G now where was LTE in same area before.

Can't see any point in them looking at your car...

Just had another look whilst on the drive.

The MMI starts on 'daylight colours' but changes to 'night colours' standard map as soon as Google Maps finishes loading.
The VC map is Google maps satellite view , yet MMI is not.
Selecting 'Standard' changes both maps to Standard
Selecting Google Maps returns only the VC to Google Map satellite view.

Mine seems to be working as it should again, no issues for the past two days. Fingers crossed.!

Out of interest, anyone updated the maps? I think mine started after I did that, maybe it need to re-cache after an update?

LTE signal was good. I was travelling on my usual routes in the city. There are black spots but I know these places and lose signal completely there. This update issue is definitely unusual. Usually takes a few seconds or maybe a minute. Signal in car is strong, but could be Audi LTE service provider internet issue. EE in UK I believe, but very unlikely to have mobile issues for a week and not hear about it. More likely something to do with the car that is slowing the connection. At first I was wondering if maybe the Google Earth app was being updated, but in total it's been updating for probably 6 hours over several days, but I don't know if it restarts each journey

I have EE as my phone provider and the last three weeks or so I've noticed issues with the 4G connection dropping out, and then not reconnecting properly. I know someone who works at the EE store where I live and he said it's been a common complaint lately. I've noticed at times when I reconnect it's been on a 4G+ connection, so I think it may be that they are extending the 4G+ coverage across the UK but with some intermittent problems. It could be related.

Just found the following quote on the Audi USA Website.

Always pay careful attention to the road, and do not drive while distracted. Audi connect® should be used only when it is safe and appropriate. Audi connect PRIME services are optional and require an active subscription with separate terms and vehicle mobile data connectivity. Some services collect location information and require a vehicle GPS signal; see Terms of Service for information about how to disable. Online services are subject to change. Google Earth™ services may not be available after December 2020. See Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and other details at audiusa.com/connect.

Up until recently it stated that Google Earth services may not be available after 2017.

Looks like they have renewed a contract and maybe we have to wait for the licenses to update ??????

Also noticed today - after downloading updated maps a couple of days ago - that icons for speed cameras were missing on the main MMI screen, but showing on the VC and coming up with audible warning.

What option do you need for speed camera alerts?

I have the tech pack and don't get any alerts on MMI or VC?

I've been using my EE SIM card last few days for Google Earth and its always worked, no internet coverage issues via my phone provider at all.
So this is definitely an Audi Connect issue.

Same here as I've gone back to using my 3 data sim, no problems since

I got the following answer from Audi yesterday:-

Please find below the steps that we advise following in order to resolve this.

1. If an additional SIM card is inserted, remove it
2. Switch off the data module (Audi Connect menu, then right sub-menu, then data security, activate data security and switch data module off)
3. Wait briefly until the menu item “Data Modules on “ is switched back to white
4. Switch on the data module
5. Wait for the bus sleep (ignition off, lock vehicle, wait 20 minutes).

If the issue persists, I would recommend speaking to your local Audi Centre.

I went to try this out today, only to find Google maps booted up quickly without problem several times.

Might be helpful for others.

In other words, "have you tried turning it off and on again"
(I work in IT so I find this funny)

I've got my follow up call with Audi CS tomorrow so we'll see if she has a similar update for me....

Forgot to ask - was this Audi Customer Services or a dealer technician?

I got a call from am Audi Tech today say this has been resolved.

I simply selected Google Maps and it started within seconds.

Maps appear to be better quality too.

Mine seems ok today - let's hope it is fixed

Been working fine for the last four days and owners of other models are reporting their maps are ok too...

I spoke to Audi UK today and they've had an update to say the problem is now resolved but they c/wouldn't advise on the cause.

It was my Audi Relationship Manager - don't ask!

Anyway, system has been trouble free for past few days so no need to reset.
