Service history???

Just a quick question about service history. I bought a 63 plate A6 s line 2.0 TDI 11 months ago when it had 63500 miles on the clock. When I first looked at the car and asked to see the service history there was no service book in the glove box, the salesman (independent dealer) said all Audi's after 2012 have their service history online which I later found out to be true. The mmi said it was due an inspection service in a years time (which is in 3 weeks from now). I'm going to be using my local vag specialist who I've used for a few years, so I phoned Audi customer services to see what has actually been done on the car & to my shock they told me this car has never been serviced in the Audi network so they have no history. I'm presuming it has been serviced at an independent garage but I'm starting to get paranoid & starting to wonder if it's ever been serviced at all. I know you can reset the oil service indicator via the mmi but not the inspection service indicator which makes me think it must of been serviced at some point. Do you guys think it's just worth biting the bullet and getting everything done for peace of mind like oil & filter, fuel filter, break fluid and air filter. I find it odd that the original owner didn't use Audi main dealer servicing while the car was under manufacturers warranty. What do you guys think? Ps the car drives fine, smooth and plenty of poke when booting it. Cheers

It's not unusual for fleet cars to be serviced outside of the dealer network, although it is unusual not to have been provided with any documented service history. Have you asked the previous owner where it was serviced, then checked with the garage?

Yeah I think I'll just get it fully serviced for peace of mind. I bought the car off a dealer so I've never spoke to the previous owner in person.

My dad always uses Audi but last time his A3 went in for service they did an engine update and he's convinced the car is not running as smooth as it did before, it could just be a placebo effect though. I've always used my local vag specialist mainly because it's not as expensive & also that I've heard a few bad things about my local Audi dealer. My car's a manual so that's one less thing to worry about, I would prefer an auto though, my last car was an auto and I must admit it was great to just sit back and drive and let the car do most of the work.

Also relating to your dad, updates can change the mapping of the car, this was a big thing on the Alfa Forum a few years ago when I had my Giulietta with a lot of complaints, what happened was due to reviews saying the economy wasn't anywhere near the quoted figures, so instead of reducing the claimed figures they made map updates that everyone got on their next service that was supposed to improve economy.

Which it did slightly but what everyone noticed was that in Normal mode it felt very slightly quicker Bizarrely but what got the complaints was that Dynamic mode felt much slower and there was no where near as much punch off the line, which made it not feel such a massive difference between N & D modes which is what sold this car for a lot of people and felt very cheated.

I really hope Audi don't do something like this but it was the reason that I got my first tuning box and others went for remaps to get that lost power back.

Yeah I've booked the car in for a full service with my local vag specialist. Definitely worth getting a full service for peace of mind, especially since I don't really know what's been done on the car up till now. Yeah that's what worries me about having software updates, it could be beneficial or it could be the complete opposite. I'm happy with the way the car drives so I'm of the opinion if it's not broke, don't fix it
