So, I have an Audi A3 CFFB (common rail) engine. I had the emissions fix applied late last year, no problems...
I've recent noticed that the engine has a horrible ticking/clicking sound upon cold start, and it stays around until the car is fully up to temperature. You can still hear the slight ticking/clicking sound even when fully warmed up.

This sound only happens when I am actually moving, it doesn't happen whilst idle/neutral/not moving.

I recently had my car fully serviced, thinking it was something that would be fixed - but surprise surprise, in the morning on the way to work, all I can hear is my car engine sounding like a bag of nails.

I'm not 100% if it's the EGR valve, however looking into my issue online, points towards this.

Upon looking into this, I found https://www.hypermiler.co.uk/diesel...lgate-emissions-fix-causing-egr-valve-to-fail

I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same issue as of late, or if it's just me?

EDIT: I'll try to get a video of this - most likely it'll be Monday evening.

Does it sound like this by any chance?

It does sound very similar - but I can hear that ticky noise inside the car especially loud when it's cold... You having the same problems?

I can hear it but not very loud. I think without audio samples it's hard to be precise. Apparently the clattering is normal for 2.0 T engines?

Is it only under load and when it is cold it struggles for power? I believe we are suffering from similar problems

That's it, and it's only under load.

I can't record a video until Monday as I'm away for the weekend (didn't drive as I didn't trust the car for the 300+ mile journey).

I get that same ticking/flicking sound inside the car very slightly too, more than the expected sound from a diesel....

read hundred of times the same, seem to be typical failure that emissions fix breaking the EGR valve or other components, in America they got 1 cumulative cause for it to Audi in U.K. is on the single case basis. Look for emission update egr on forum or google.

Glad to hear you didn't take it that far I took mine to a specialist who suspects it's a leaking injector causing the knock haven't had

Pretty sure that's a 2.0tfsi and isint part of the emissions scandal you could call Audi and ask though

anyway any recall is stated to dvla (need to be), where you can find if your car got any "issue" to get done

Annoyingly enough, looks like my car was rear ended on my drive way whilst we were away. Nothing major - just the bumper, bit of hot water and pushing will pop it back into shape...

The car didn't want to make that annoying sound... Probably as I had the mrs recording for it, so the car probably got camera shy, eh!

I'll take it to my local VAG specialist once I can afford to, so probably in the coming weeks, to see if they can diagnose what it may be. How much were you quoted for a faulty injector, if you don't mind me asking?

Anyone know how much Audi charges for the cruise control stalk and steering wheel cover?

Injector + should be like 50£ (if already diagnosed as fault).

they got up to 14 or 30 days to get back to you (as far as I know), if it was formally done (letter or registered call) to get back to you after that you can contact some lawyer what to do legally.

Thanks for that Marek it's been a little over two weeks i coulndt get through to them tođay I did request a call back in going give them an earful tommrow and to expect to hear from my lawyer if they say something stupid again

Referring to our recent conversation regarding the injectors on your vehicle, I have had a quote back from workshop and ran it through my operations manager for authrisation and unfortunately, due to the amount of time you have had your vehicle we will not be covering the cost for this and giving that you reported the issue within your warranty does not indicate that the fault was there at the point of sale.

Please accept my apologies for this and I will not be able to advise any further.

So I got this after two weeks of them saying they would help could anyone assist me further

But the vehicle is under warranty right? So I don't care if problem was at moment of sale or not, if you got computer under warranty they will tell you ..."due to the amount of time you have had your"... computer ..."we will not be covering the cost"... ? Don't gimme a bulls*it as the warranty is for covering any issue during the duration of it.
P.S. if they persist just call the number on gov page posted, and take advice.

Is this warranty direct by any chance?

"
If you buy a new or used car from a dealer and experience problems with it, you have some statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

The Act states the car must be “of a satisfactory quality”, “fit for purpose” and “as described”. (For a used car, “satisfactory quality” takes into account the car’s age and mileage.)

You have a right to reject something faulty and you are entitled to a full refund within 30 days of purchase in most cases.

After 30 days you lose the short-term right to reject the goods.

You’ll also have fewer rights, such as only being able to ask for a repair or replacement, or a partial refund.

In fact, you’re legally allowed to return it up to six years after you bought it (in Scotland, it’s five years after you first realised there was a problem).

But it gets more difficult to prove a fault and not normal wear and tear is the cause of any problem."

My sympathies. Make sure you read the small print and see if they have anything on pre existing faults and how they determine if it is the case. Assuming you bought it from a dealer and they provided the insurance you have a strong case since it's the dealers issue that they failed to disclose any prior/known problems and falsely sold you the warranty.

Thanks guys for the help I appreciate it I will be making some phone calls tomorrow and will let you know how I get on I just can't believe these people yes I purchased the vehicle within two weeks of ownership I requested they check the injectors because I experienced slight judder on start up they said everything is fine nothing to worry about, It then happened again and I requested they check them again so not once but twice it went back to them both times they said there is nothing wrong. Warranty runs out and what do you know It starts knocking it's t!ts off I then report it and I'm told my warranty is over they can only advise on something I mentioned during the warranty period. To which I totally agreed with but I said if the diagnosis point to the injectors is it your problem? They said YES. So I get a local specialist to diagnose it and report back to them and they AGREE to solve my problems saying they are waiting on quotes from there suppliers two weeks go by and then I get told nothing was wrong when we sold it but then why did they replace my EGR valve a month after I purchased the vehicle when the EML came on? And why did they initially agree to repairs??

P.s I have all of this on email

With it being the weekend I couldn't make many calls, so I emailed citizen advice who will review and give me a response within 3 working days on how to best to approach this and may refer my case to trading standards.
