Dilemma - B9 S4 or B8 RS4

Get them!! You're saving bare cash. I mean, you've already decided in your gut (let's be honest) on an RS4 I still think it's great that Audi dealers are doing this. Hopefully I'm not too late come next year.

The wife is coming around. Doing the you only live once and it's an investment. If a 2006 b7 rs4 is still £15k. Then the b8 rs4 is still going to be worth something in a few years and might actually make money out of it.

I did that sort of man maths on her when i come out of the company car scheme. Saying I'll have an asset rather than paying monthly and then it just being low loadered away. Just forgot to mention you pay income tax on the car allowance and never went near running costs

Where the hell did you find a neighbour like that? That's brilliant haha. I've been on a few Day rallies with a couple of B7s. Man they sound good. But both versions of the 4.2 deserve a good exhaust. Caprista is damn good but pricey.

@Robbe it's your call bro but all I'm seeing is masses of excitement for the RS4 and I HAVE a B9 S4 haha. Some things just can't be explained by the head. I don't 'love' my S4. I respect it. I appreciate its quality, build and performance ability.

I'm getting weepy. I need a V8

I had a B8.5 S4 Phantom black with red black SS seats. When I test drove an RS4 last year I found that the S4 was more aggressive low end but it soon lost its legs as it munched through the gears quicker. I then had an SQ5 which was all low down torque and was a great touring car but it's a diesel....best rid as it's not flavour of the year then when I eventually got my RS4 and that engine it wasn't long before I realised I am beholding one of the best respected HAND BUILT yolks with a note that screams at you "faster, faster" it's very naughty like that.....I have a new "high score" which I'm not willing to disclose! now off to the garage you go (GC Motors Harrogate) will sort you out. good luck. Ps I know my wife secretly enjoys it too

Oh man, reading this I'm beginning to think about cancelling my S4 order and find a well spec'd RS4!!!!

I guess with my 20k+ miles per year the S4 is the best compromise but the thought of these beasts being an appreciating future classic is tempting.

By the time there appreciating yours would have been to the moon and back doing 20k a year the maintanence would also negate any cash you did save on depreciation. I'd stick with the s4 lol

Hahaha. See. It's a love affair. Envious! Every time I drive past GC Motors, I go so slow to take a peak at what they've got. Then boot it. Such a kid. They've got loads. Redline has a better range I think. That forecourt is jam packed.

My Audi dealer is a hero though and I want to give him the opportunity to find me an RS4 with the right APR. @Robbe has found some not too shabby figures though, I must admit

PS: Not about speed for me. Nobody really NEEDS more than what an S4 can provide. It's how it makes ya feel man.

Head vs Heart Be a while before they come good on that score. But, I think we should all experience these V8s before they're totally banned!

Been going back and forth with the dealer for the RS4. they cannot beat the finance I have found. only other downside atm is that i have £2k negative equity in my car. so will have to pay that off and then get a small deposit on top of that of about £500. so my choices are if i go for one. Wife is slowly coming around.. :)

5 year HP with monthly payments of £643
4 year PCP with monthly payments of £591 with a final payment of £11,858

my head says go for the 5 year HP as it doesn't matter what mileage i do and means if i had to sell within 18 months I would still have money in it

Just had a personal video of the car and it looks clean and nice.....

final small issue is that I am due to drive to france on holiday in 2 weeks. it would be the perfect get to know the car and would be lovely to drive on the french auto routes.. we normally do about 1,500-2,000 miles. hmmm.......

It'll be a great opportunity to get to know the fuel tank!! So, pardon my ignorance but what car you got right now? What was Best APR Audi could do?

So to hand it back, you'll pay £2k and then put £500 deposit down? I'm going to have huge negative equity I fear. Gulp. There's not a huge difference in the HP and PCP so I see your point in that choice there. A lot of freedom to just sell on and potentially make a bit extra.

Audi couldn't get anywhere near. they quote £637 a month on a 4 year PCP with a final payment of almost £16,000. think that worked out about 9%. The quote i have, which has been provide, has the apr at about 3.4%, so a lot less interest to pay and more freedom to change the car without it being in negative equity. win on all accounts

Is your current car with Audi finance? I'll get stung on my mileage if I just hand back. Usually been very cool with me as I trade in with them and finance another but if they can only get 9% Apr we'll have issues. Other car garages can buy you out of your finance agreement with a settlement figure. Could be the way.

Current car is with Audi finance. They will buy my car off me and I will plug the gap. So should have any issues with the finance company. Well that is my view. But the apr on 2nd hand cars is stupid. But have a look at the Halifax. I bank with them so get a good rate. :)

Genuinely? That's unreal. Lawton Brook were most competitive I seen a year ago in Harrogate. 4.something. Might be worth a look. Just something they had in at time or did they source one for you?

Just checked my quote and the apr is 3.4%. The wife is now on my side. Said she cannot see a reason why I don't get it. She is still worried about it. Said the way it's financed I could easily sell it in a year and still have some equity in it. So just need to have a think overnight to make sure it is the right one. Never had a white car before and then I could soon be owning an RS4

Flipping eck. These rates are insane for used.

That is what I thought. Only found it by doing a loan search through moneysupermarket. Think the apr is less then i am currently paying. :)

Bad used rates are just dealers being opportunistic, should always be able to move it to any decent market rate

Trust, these are genuine.....I think GC have an RS4 in stock? Make sure the spec is good and I got a 15 plate which means warranty runs until March next year, already had the DRC replaced.....winning

We'd be hard pushed to get Audi to match that!!

Yea they just buy them in if they make on the car and don't need to flog the audi finance to make any money. You could easy do 4% at an audi dealer on a used car

So like @Robbe just find the car but at dealer of your choice then use external finance?

I know the RS4 is special but for only a little more you can get an S6 with the same engine, newer and a lot less miles!

Did think about that one as the wife likes the A6. But she didn't like the wheels and preferred the black grill so was a no. So I knew that was not going to happen. Have got the green light to go from rs4 to rs6. So that would be my next target in a few years.

Really interesting reading this. I currently drive a b8.5 a4 which is your typical boring diesel and I'm looking at both the b8 rs4 and b9 s4.

Really keen to find out what you go for as my thought process is the exact same as yours haha

Forget about B9 S4, at least for next year or so. Maybe after 2018 when gent have fixed all the issues with it. Plus, Turbocharged is not the same as Supercharged engine. RS4, she is fearsome thing, a beauty to behold!

That 4.2 litre v8 blows the s4 engine away purely on sound and feel. It turns heads anywhere but the thing that keeps the b9 s4 in contention for me is the better tech and the virtual cockpit. I know it shouldn't be that big a deal but the interior in the b9 just seems like a great place to be.
