Have just taken delivery of our A5. (It's stunning !!)

The keyTag with the 10 digit Primary User code on it was discarded by the dealer who didn't know what it was !

They ordered a replacement from Germany, which arrived in around 1 week.

The code, however, wasn't accepted by the car. After 3 weeks of dealer visits and phone calls to Audi, it was discovered that the dealer had ordered the tag using the wrong VIN.

A replacement tag was ordered by the dealer, which should arrive shortly. Hopefully, this time, it is the correct one !

Has anyone else had an issue with their primary user code, or were we just unlucky ?

Mine was in the glove box, I didnt know what is that and almost discarded myself; luckily had many other things to take care and later registering to my audi I realised what is it for.
Hopefully you'll get yours soon.

Mine was attached with my spare key and dealer said I would need it for the audi connect. Worked fine first time for me.

Tag arrived at dealers today. He scratched off the panel and sent me a photo of the code.

Worded first time !

According the very nice man at Audi, the original tag was for a Q7.

Will probably have to call Audi Support in the morning as the battery will be flat. My wife is currently on the sofa locking and unlocking the car giggling to herself :-/

Paul can you please tell me where in the mmi menu you put the tag number as I can't find where it goes many thanks

My local dealer is quoting £50 to provide a replacement 10 digit code, as I didn't buy from them. Does this sound about right and is it actually worth it?

Not sure how old your car is but I would speak to Audi Custoner Services to see if they will provide the code.

My gut feel is that the dealer is trying it on !

Thanks, the car is MY17, 2.0TFSI SB and it was in for its first service. The previous owner, an independent dealer, didn't pass on the code and I didn't know to ask for it. I'll try Audi UK, can't cost too much to generate a code?

My thoughts exactly. Audi customer service have always been good in my experience so hope they provide it a goodwill.

I tried them on the live chat, said I hadn't had chance to test the 3 months trial of the Audi Connect, next thing I knew I had a 12 month licence for free :)

My car is 12m old now and the licence is due to expire mid June (I had 3 months plus a 12m free extension) and Custoner Services have said if I contact them when there is two weeks to the expiry date they will auto renew for another 12m free of charge which is great news!

I still haven't tried it much lol, I'd never pay for it as I don't see the point of it!

Ah, that was the second part of my question, is it worth it? Sounds like it is, if it's free, otherwise not really?

Well the 10 digit code allows you to link your phone to the car to review status and also lock/unlock etc.

I have used it before when away from the car and thought I’d left it unlocked. Was able to check easily.

The licence I mention also gives you the google earth; live traffic etc.

I think that also works without paying for it?!?!?

I do use that function TBH, many times I've been in work when I had the S3 and phoned a mate to drive past my car to see if the mirrors were folded in (locked), now I use my phone for the A5:

What did Audi UK say?

I guess the key question is what do you want to do that the code will give you?

They couldn’t help me, I have to use the dealer network and buy a code. As I don’t know what the MyAudi app does I don’t know if I need it or want it. Strange situation.

A friend has suggested I won't be able to get map updates without theMyAudi account and therefore need the Primary User code to open an account - is this correct?

Thanks, I've done as you suggest but I need the 10 digit code to use Audi Connect. Can you update maps without Audi Connect, I searched the myAudi site but don't see a map update option.

Do you have the Tech plus (the screen will have a silver bezel whereas the standard is black)

If it is the former then you download the maps but for the standard you have to buy a new SD card to put in the glove box.

If you have the plus/advanced then it may be worth buying the code to get the updates. I would try a couple of other dealers first though before paying the current one £50!

As I understood it the 10 digit code is only to link MyAudi to the key fob allowing you to lock/unlock the car and read other service stuff. I've never used it and I have been able to download maps from the website, it is under Connect...

Thanks for the reply but I don't see an option to download maps in my.audi.com in the Connect Services area.

I don’t have that option but I believe I have SD card maps. I also only have a black surround bezel ie not silver, so I guess I have the basic package?

Yes that will be sd card based, so no map updates will be available to download. Unfortunately the only way to update them will be to purchase a new up to date sd card, then have it activated by a dealership. Cost could be over £400...

Really sorry, no other way I could put it to ease your pain. It is documented on other forums that you can't update SD sat navs but I guess I've been around a few more than you have...

So I guess the answer to my original question, is it worth paying £50 for the code, is no. Thanks for the info everyone.

If you have a car that has the sos system then the key code will allow you to lock/unlock the car from an app on your phone and also check upon other service systems in your car...

They now want £75 for the code, if it's only the app that you need it for I don't think I'll bother.
