So a large chip has come off my rear suspension spring of my 2005 A3 2.0T S Line, and i need to get it (well both) replaced.

As money is a bit tight at the moment I'm looking for some advice on what to do? Buy a used pair off ebay, although I'm not sure about those coloured dots, does that really matter?

Also I have a set of Eibach pro kit springs, if I were to replace the rear 2 springs with these, and also change the shocks to Bilsteins, would that be okay if I went with that and kept the front completely stock?

Cheers

The current rear springs have 3 white and 1 green dots, not sure what this equates to though?

If money is tight, you may want to consider just replacing the one side. What is the mileage of your car? How long do you realistically plan on keeping it?
I have an intact spring and shock from the rear of my 2005 A3 2.0 TDI S-line if you are interested. Also has the top mount still attached which will make installation easier.
As for the dots, I'm not sure. Maybe something to do with the load rating? No idea lol
I can have a look at my spring and see if it has any dots on it?

Yes please! The car is currently on 131k miles. How many has your springs done? Also does it matter whether it's Quattro or not? Cheers

Will have a look shortly and get a picture too mate. The spring was removed at 140k miles so should be very similar to your car. My car is non-quattro. I think it may vary but only very slightly. For instance a quattro spring may be designed to handle the extra weight from having the rear wheel drive components.

Hi mate I've had a look at the springs for you.

Apologies as I haven't cleaned them up. The spring I have with the dots on it appears to be a front spring (green-green-blue or white-green).

However the spring you talked about is a rear spring, which is a longer spring with more coils. I have one of these also and it doesn't have any dots from what I've seen.

Please see the pic below:

Many thanks for going to the trouble of doing this! I wonder why the rear one doesn't have any markings? Cheers

That's ok mate, I think the rear one might be a non-OEM part possibly.

just check some scrapyard or gumtree near you /ebay /trading post on here and get 1 used for now (shouldn't be more than 20 quids), then get 2 new ones and save this ones as spare

Thanks, it's just the whole coloured dots thing, and whether quattro/non-quattro matters etc

I spoke to Mike (parts manager) and he said the coloured dots correspond to a load rating.

If you can diy just swap the Eibach pro kit in.

I can't swap the eibach springs in, they'll just pop the shocks

He also said he has a set of them in the first post if you care to read it.

Here's why he can't use them xD but also the thing of how it will be performing on cornering etc.. on only back lowered as well try to adjust the lights with that drop can be impossible.

as said just trip to scrappy or ebay and take 1 spring for now.

Rear shocks £30.0 each!!

again, if he can't afford it, I dubd he will take 2 shocks for 30 instead of 1 spring for 10£-20£ but... anything can happen.

Personally, if you're going to the trouble of replacing the springs, I would fit new ones every time. The second hand ones could easily break in a week or two, not worth the hassle. Especially when a pair of new ones can be had for under £50

I have my standard springs from my S3 available, should give you a nice subtle drop on your A3
