Hello.
I need to top up some oil to the engine. It is 1.4 tfsi.
I have been told oil should be VW 508 00 Castrol.
I have been looking around but no luck.
Do you guys know where to get it?
Regards

It does seem rather difficult to get hold of. Castrol, et al, have all got their versions of the spec announced but seems impossible to buy except from Total - search on eBay for "Quartz Ineo Long Life 0W-20", there's some from Germany listed.

Read somewhere that it's the manufacturers holding the reigns and want you to think they're the only folk who have the "right stuff" but the cynic in me says that if you took yours for service, they'd just put 504 or 502 spec in.

Take a look in your manual though, it may say that it's OK to top up with 504.

I wonder then what oil is in the engine from the factory, as the default setting for the service intervals is flexible does that mean my fixed interval engine has the wrong oil?

Would be logical to put long life in as default but can you really ever figure out manufacturers logic!!!!

Does the ticket with the paint and option codes maybe show, I don't know....

The ticket doesn't include codes for the oil as far as I understand, and you can't specify the use of the car upon ordering anyway. Logic tells me that oil used for shorter journeys would need to be more 'robust' than for motorway ones...

Good point.

As far as I understand a car engine spending its life on a motorway has a far easier time than one in stop start traffic and a engine subjected to short journey's, thus I am supposing the oil will too. I guess that might be offset to a certain degree that long life oil travels further but still it has less stress...

Just back from Asda they have fully synthetic 5W-30 reduced from £26 to £13 for four litres, container shows for VW meets 504.00. Why is this any worse than the Audi stuff?

5L !

Who knows but it meets the spec , and a spec is a spec .

Asda oil in my engine and last 4 changes .

At £13 for 5L is the biggest bargain non approved 504.00 507.00 .

Just a thought, have you search the back of your car and around the spare tyre well? Usually a top up pack is supplied, both my current A4 had one as well as my previous A3. if not go back to the dealership and argue with them everyone else got one...

Car was pre-reg and as I didn't know you got it free I did not ask.

No luck with mine.Only Battery and spare wheel with no oil :)

I'm getting a service tomorrow. It's been on a fixed service schedule but will be changed to a variable service schedule tomorrow at £369 a service!

Which service is £369 and out of interest what are you getting for £369? £369 :wtf:

1st Service (19,000 miles). I think it gets an oil change and an engine swap with an R8.

So, car back from Audi Hamilton.

"Your car was serviced today using fully synthetic 0w30 oil meeting VW Standards 504.00 and 507.00. The Oil is the standard recommended by Audi". The Oil used was a Shell Oil.

I'd go back to fixed if I was you, far cheaper mine is costing me £9.52 a month for three years which equates to £342...
