Alright all?!

Just picked up our Ibis White S3 Sportback, only extra is the privacy glass (on a budget due to imminent baby).

Just one question, why the h&ll is the new MMI set up soooooooooo complicated????

It's not?

What are you finding particularly complicated?

Having had MMI 2G, 3G and 3G+ before getting my current S3 8V, I can't say that the operating logic is massively different today compared to 7 years ago. Sure the graphics are prettier, and the menu is now a carousel, but for the most part its the same.

Cheers for coming back to me.

It's not massively different. My big issue is I had to switch off the Apple Car Play function as it wouldn't let me use the phone button on the steering wheel while I was listening to Spotify. Also, previously noneed to register.

You know what it is, forgive me for swearing, I have a BMW 330e company car and the system is just a bit more user friendly. You can use Audible and Spotify as an app on the system and can still make calls at the same time without.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong??

Hi

I'm completely new to the Audi MMI, as my previous cars didn't have it in. I think in places the menu system and sub-menu's could be better, and it also has its quirks/bugs, especially when your iPhone is connect by CarPlay. Such as:-

- When connected to CarPlay you cant make telephone calls via the Audi MMI system, you have to use CarPlay/Siri
- When connected to CarPlay you cant access your iPhone contacts for directory / address information for use with the Audi MMI navigation, you have to use Apple Maps for navigation direct from an address on your iPhone. You CAN still use the Audi MMI navigation, but you'll need to enter the destination address manually.
- When NOT connected to CarPlay, the Audi MMI can read text messages to you, but not send them (with the built in SIM) - yep, its stupid, but I think this might be a restriction with the iPhone not supporting a particular message protocol. (Not sure if text message stuff is part of tech pack or standard, someone will correct me.)

But to make calls, with CarPlay, "long-press" the speech dialogue button on your steering wheel, this should activate Siri. You can also say "hey Siri". If you short-press, it will try to use the Audi MMI speech dialogue system. (Again, not sure if speech dialogue is standard or part of tech pack)

Hope this helps a bit.

AL - Great reply, thanks.

Just confirms what I thought. Actually tried the CarPlay call after I put my message on and felt stupid.

It's just a confusing system. Shame as it more or less acts as 2 different systems.

Ah well, just have use the right pedal and give myself smiles instead.

When using car play I have to unplug the phone sometimes to get the media player to continue playing. It's as if the phone is still active and mutes everything. Right PITA to be honest. Only going to use CarPlay for long journeys me thinks.

CarPlay or Android Auto if you have android are superior systems.

I would just use that for navigation. My personal preference is Android Auto as you can have Google Maps or Waze and many more music apps available to you.

Remember the next generation of Audis will run Android as the MMI OS - I believe starting with the new A8 next month (but don't quote me on that!)

Does Waze work, searched for a definitive answer before buying the A3 and my conclusion was that it didn't? Really should try for myself

Waze is in beta testing on android auto currently.

You can join the beta just google for it. But it's very touch and go with the MMI control wheel as waze is not optimised for that yet. Works fine on my golf with the touch screen but not so good on an Audi system yet. As I said it's being tested and that's one of the bugs being worked on
