Just ordered a new Avant. The spec sheet confirms tow bar preparation, not sure what this includes. Couldn't stretch to the factory fitted towbar so sorting it with the dealer but they said they aren't sure if I can have the genuine audi retractable/folding hitch fitted as per the options? Has anyone else had this done at all and can confirm exactly what the dealers are likely to fit ?

You can get the audi factory type fitted but when I enquired it was a lot more than having gone for the factory fitted option.

I had a Bosal removable one fitted as I didn't think I would need one when I bought my car.

The towbar preparation is only referring to the wiring loom as you still need a controller/interface for the electronics.

I had a few issue with that getting lots error messages but it did get sorted in the end.

I am pretty sure our local Audi dealer sends cars to third party specialists for towbar fitting.

Does the factory prep provide this functionality (trailer shown on the MMI overhead graphic and trailer indicators in the dash and bulb out warning):



I guess the Audi genuine module is needed too.

My third party one shows up in the dash, adjusts speed limits and disables the pre sense.
 
Interesting, I'm surprised it disables pre-sense, the forward one too? Does the MMI parking radar display show a trailer hitched to the rear?

I presume its because it doesn't know what you are towing and how heavy it is.
I have reversing camera so I don't know about the MMI display, but I am told there is an obstruction.
