my 16 plate s3 dsg is a nightmare at junctions or pulling off from standstill. you cant nip into a gap in traffic theres either nothing or you're sat with revs looking like a loon and wheelspin. it is just down right dangerous especially if start/stop activated then it feels like forever for car to turn on find a gear summon up some power then move - too late 5 + cars gone by.
I called out audi assist, garage wanted me to wait 2 months for appointment, engineer noticed problem and has sent report to audi. he has made adjustments, don't know what, but if problem continues car to be recovered for live link to factory.
just thinking if everyone suffering from this were to call out audi assist they might sort it out quicker. I have been talking to garage but they deal in house and nothing gets back to audi, where the assist guys give feedback to audi.

I've had this a few times now. Think its exacerbated by being in efficiency where the map is really laggy. Only thing I can say is I've changed my driving behavior to get the car out of start stop before a gap presents itself. At the end of the day the gearbox ecu doesn't know the environment/situation its in, just gotta live with it I guess :/

no I disagree. I have had a couple of dsg cars and never this problem. the ecu has to know to engage first gear the car is stationary. efficiency is like steering a boat.

I knock the gearbox into sport at all junctions/roundabouts. This does two things; stops the car enabling start/stop, and gives better throttle response for making progress into a gap.

I agree that does help and work but we shouldn't have to drive around a problem, not for a premium car. I have spoken to APR tuning about a dsg tune which might help and they said Mercedes had the same issue a few years ago but sorted it, now its audi.

I haven't seen this issue in mine. My cars is always in Dynamic whether that makes any difference.
Also coming up to junctions I always slip the lever across to manual to stop the S/S cutting the engine.

Nearly sounds like there is an issue with your accelerator pedal, giving an intermittent input at small throttle applications.

dynamic sharpens it up but I couldn't drive it all the time. didn't think manual mode stopped s/s

Must admit I've not experienced this in my S3, still running it in at the moment so very rarely in Sport Mode / Dynamic for now, usually kept in auto with S/S turned off.

This is my first S Tronic coming from all manual cars previously and I must admit it's taken a little while to get used to it. Mainly setting off, in a manual your are in full control of how quickly you set off and exactly when. In my S3 I've found you have to prempt a little and tell the car to engage the clutch and start rolling forward and once it starts to move forward acceleration can be applied and I find the response pretty instant. S mode definitely rectifies this though as take off is instant and easily matches a manual car. I've not driven too many other auto cars but I imagine that is a similar thing across the board.

Not had this problem really.
Never use Efficiency or Stop/Start.
Mainly Dynamic for me.
What I would say is that the S3 turbo isn't as fast off the mark as my S5 supercharged which went from 0-30 in blink without hesitation.

Yep have 18 month pfl and have the same . I have it in dynamic D , but at a roundabout or junction I go into S . I also have s/s off.
It is annoying though

+1 on putting it into "S" on the gearbox at every junction.
Pulls away much quicker and is always ready to go

Same here, if I know I may need a quick getaway from a junction, I put the gearbox into S-mode. I drive in Dynamic and S-mode most of the time anyway, but I do use efficiency mode for my town-based commute. So you do have to anticipate things a bit more, for instance, coming up to a busy roundabout, lots of traffic, I'll switch to Dynamic a couple of hundred yards before reaching the junction.

Efficiency mode and D-mode on the gearbox start off with lower revs to begin with, and change gear at lower revs, so they are never going to be good for a quick getaway. They are pre-programmed to change gear at the lowest possible revs. Also, if I am remaining in Efficiency mode, and I am coming up to a junction, again I have to anticipate that and quickly turn off start/stop - as it can be flippin dangerous!

But in S-mode, I've not noticed any hesitancy at all. In fact I've been quite impressed with the throttle response in this car, but only in S-mode.

....it definitely helps I think to "prime" the car before carrying out rapid instructions....I've caught the car a couple of times and it just revved and did nothing....definitely requires a more sensitive touch sometimes and nothing too ham-fisted....I agree its a bit annoying. I usually throw the car in Sport a lot or Dynamic before a maneuver....but then I can't help getting a bit excited after that and taking off lol

I know what you mean coming from a manual S3, as you can't get say 2500 rpm ready to drop the clutch.

I always use dynamic in drive or sports manual with sports traction control or completely off and it isn't too bad and if it's a really busy island etc you can always use launch control with just under 3k rpm and it works rather nicely. Sounds crazy but it's very easy to control.

This....

This is my biggest concern moving from my S5 to an S3.

Had it all the time in my turbocharged 2.0TFSI A5 and love how I never have to worry about it in my Supercharged S5.....

maybe its preefl only. but why should I have to compromise my last dsg never had this issue

A few guys on the A4 forum have the same problem, again sorted with doing what people on here do = s mode when stopped.

Or maybe you shouldn't try fit in to small gaps that are not really there. Can't say I have the problem you're facing.

To be fair to the OP, sometimes it's unavoidable.
We live on a country road and where it meets the main road just at a blind corner it's a real issue. Once you go you have to keep going and sometimes a car can appear a split second after you start moving.
Was a nightmare when the wife had her A4 2.0 TDI S-Tronic. The lag and inability to rev it in advance of pulling away was one of the main reasons she only kept it a year, it was down right dangerous.
My S3 is nowhere near as bad but after the S5 it's noticeable.

Completely agree. The country side is a nightmare for roads like that. Plenty around me where you need to be able to shoot off quickly to merge with the road. Difference in coming from my manual 2.0tdi A4 to the s tronic S3 Is amazing. Drop it into "S" every time and haven't really had any problems. Being an on call firefighter as well it's a massive advantage being able to merge into traffic on busy roads to get to the station quickly
