Hi chaps, I posted in the other thread asking whether to fill up on super or plain ordinary diesel for my 3.0tdi. It got me thinking what does the enthusiast on here use?

Please state what engine you have and which fuel you use and feel free to give your reasons why. I'm more curious about whether you use the ordinary or higher octane/cetane fuels rather than which brand. And please I'd rather this doesn't turn into a you're wrong, I'm right thread. I'm purely curious about everybody's individual reasons why they use what they use.

Super Unleaded for me, Engine runs quieter and has more pull.

I use V Power Nitro every time since new on my mapped A4 Saloon 272 Quattro.

I used it on my mapped a3 tdi with similar results - smoother, engine felt happy, better economy etc. Did use supermarket fuel on the a3 when it was new as I wasn't as fussy about how I wanted my car to drive as I am now, but can't remember back then if it made much difference :expressionless: I did however recently try out BP Ultimate on the A4 and the gearbox/engine was acting confused :/ lots of lag and the throttle felt like it died that day:laughing:

Tesco99 in all my performance cars and will use in the new s4 also.
For diesel whatever is cheapest it all comes from the same tank the standard stuff I mean

depends what's available where I am, and how flush I'm feeling.
Mostly try to aim for branded fuel, and use super versions occasionally. The fuel filler says it runs on 95, which is considered 'super' in most other countries anyway!

If you feel bored, you can look at all the fuel ups below ;)

Shall I leave this here https://www.petrolprices.com/blog/supermarket-fuel-and-premium-petrol-the-lowdown.html If you run your car on the recommended octane it will be fine, if you run it on a higher octane you are wasting your money.

I know, which is why in the other thread I ask what the manufacturer recommends for the 3.0tdi, because I can't find it in the user manual or on the car.

My previous s2000 was mapped for 98ron but if none was available then 95ron was fine. Is the 3.0tdi a performance car? I have no idea. I certainly don't want to fill up an extra 10p a litre if it isn't mapped to run it though.

But like I said, this thread is purely to see what the enthusiasts lean towards and why and their personal experiences. I'm not trying to start a debate here and say who is wrong and right.

Which fuel do you use cuke2u?

Sainburys 95ron as it is the nearest to where I travel from home to work...

I pull in,

I look at the pump, if it's 95 only I use it.. if it's 95 and 98 I use the 98..

I pull out the fuel card, and someone else pays for it.

Maybe I'm not the best reference..

These surveys are repeated time after time and don't really tells us anything objective just peoples habits. Probably from advice given in a pub. You'll find out what fuel the 3.0l requires when you get it and look inside the fuel filler. More than likely it'll have half a tank of morrisons finest from the dealership anyway ;-)

I've looked everywhere but still can't find it. I'm gonna guess it doesn't really matter for our diesel engines. It does however say for petrol engines that the higher octane is recommended, and if unavailable then drive at reduced engine speeds until you're able to fill up on the recommended fuel again. Can't argue with what the manufacturer says.

I'll ask the chap who sold me the car to see if he can find anything out regarding the diesels.

Started using shell v power about a month ago in the 218Q definitely notice a difference. The engine feels smoother more willing to rev and it lasts a tad longer than the supermarket stuff. Cant afford to use it evertime though unfortunately

Asda Normal Petrol for me.

I've tried Shell / BP V / Ultimate stuff in past cars and really couldn't tell the difference. Plus now I'd need to go out of my way to go and get it.

Used both and found no difference so go with the normal stuff now. 218 3.0 TDI.
