Heard this one before right.... maybe, I hope so.
So my car engine gets too hot and cuts out the A/C.
I wouldn't really notice the problem except the A/C cuts out.
I think the cooling fans are running at the wrong temperatures.
A/C off- the fans run at high and low speed , however, low speed cuts in at approx. 115C and high speed above 121C. This usually drops temp to about 99C then heats back up to about 115C in about 5 mins and repeats the cycle. ( it usually doesn't go to hi speed unless I do a lot of stop start driving).
This only happens during the day at night it rarely hits 110C max as it is much cooler weather (usually runs about 99c max)
A/C on- fans run at low speed ( always) and don't see high speed as it does not go above about 110 or so.
(The A/C cooling cuts out about 110C or so and comes back on when it drops to 99C)
What has been done:
Cooling pump replaced 18 months ago (before this problem).
Large radiator fan replaced 8 months ago (before this problem, overheated in traffic, replaced non working fan).
Thermostat replaced 2 weeks ago (first thing I did when this problem started, can see result the of thermostat opening on the gauge and appears to be working as it should).
o-ring replaced on sensor as it began leaking steam over 121C.
Cracked cooling flange replaced yesterday as I began losing coolant.
Things that may be important or irrelevant:
The temperature (readings) on both the gauge and the 49c always both drop instantly from 121C to 99C.
It is very hot weather here.
Car runs normally otherwise.
I am confident there are no airlocks after doing above replacements (this may also cause the symptoms I am experiencing).
I am aware the 49C sensor location is before the radiator and likely hotter than actual.
The 51C (engine temp) reading maxes out at 75C.
What controls the fan cut in temps?
I suspect I need a new thermal switch to control the fans? ( maybe poor contact with coolant?)
Does this model have a fan control module?
Input much appreciated.
Pete
