Nigels gt30 s3

"Seems what I thought was a basic topmount change is turning into a bigger and bigger repair Bill lol"

sounds about right for S3 ownership, you are improving the car though :)

Well after spending some money fixing up the s3 with poly bushes, cv, rocker cover gasket, oil change, wheel bearing and blown exhaust gasket finally manged to fit my HPA controller and my badges. I have also ordered some ebc grooved discs and yellow stuff pads for my new lcr brembo setup :)

Although haven't had a chance to really test it yet as for some reason I'm not getting full boost only between 20 - 25 when it was running 28 psi seems to build a lot slower like a boost leak. There are 2 pipes that have splits in them but they don't go all the way through, they are the dv hoses. I have ordered new ones anyway so that will cancel that out. Cleaned the IAT sensor. Could it be n75 or maf ?

Well got a few more bits to put on now, I do like it when I get post :)

I will be getting the lcr setup on and seeing if I can get anything for the r32 setup.

Well gotta say super impressed with the new brembo setup. :)

The yellow stuff pads with the grooved discs all that's needed is a touch of the brake pedal and it feels like your gonna go through the windscreen !

Think the boost problem is sorted also putting it down to faulty IAT sensor

Thanks prawn still bedding them in but got a lot of confidence in them now. Combination of them and the ns2r tyres should be fun round the ring !

I have not heard any squealing yet

Not a massive update found a split pipe I didn't know I had

Resized 20170308 152247

So ordered a set of these which seems to be the pipes that commonly split.

Gave her a little service with some new plugs and fuel filter. Gave her a good mop over and used new poorboys black hole polish.

Then decided to see what it was like with the rear stripped out

Fitted my new steering wheel today quite pleased with it, be nice when I get the horn working and airbag light off.

Not really much of an update but figured out why my horn was playing up, the clock spring was knackered so need a new one now should sort the problem.

Also managed to get to the fast show at Santa POD of Sunday and get a few runs in as I have been on any tracks yet and managed a 12.5 @ 111mph which I am pleased with. The haldex controller definetly helped just needed play with the settings some more.

Also I didn't know that you should be looking to launch when the 3 Amber lights show, I was launching on green which lost me about half a second.

Also on some "private roads" the car will do in excess of 160mph. :)

Well took the plunge and bought a set of ap coilovers and after a pain trying to fit them, not having correct tools and struggling with the fronts there on ! Thanks to tuffty for the manual.

Looking good! Side boob shot of your right height to complete the picture ??? :)

i found coilovers much easier to installed because you can just wind them all the way down for a much easier fit within the arch whereas you gotta compress the stock springs, then finagle with putting the knuckle back in... blah blah!

I am going to get some side boob shots today need to give it a drive let them settle a little. I followed the manual that tuffty showed me and everything is straight forward until it says pull down bearing hub to release shock..... it doesn't just pull down I was standing and jumping on it lol the had to use a jack to push the shock up at the same time

hahaha yeah that's where "push" means "get a big effing hammer and hit the craphola out of the knuckle about 50 times to release strut from knuckle"... and then you have the joy of putting it on! hahaha

Well luckily i think the ap coilovers are shorter so when back in very easily lol but they are all done now soon as I get a chance later want to throw it round some bends

Went to a dyno day today at AMD with a pal ( cough Vauxhall day lol ) decided to stick car on the rollers see the difference from my old graph.

FB IMG 1492966296186

To be fair they were pretty similar measured 406hp and 361 tq, the tq is higher bit I have heard badger 5 dyno under reads a little to so she is still running well.

not under reads more others over read relative to my Dastek dyno.
so when we have stroker S3's doing 470lbft on my dyno, you know they're some level of thrust on other "happier" dynos ;)

Glad to see yours is running ok still.

Got ya sorry dude, just what I have seen on here people had said yours under read but that's cleared that up lol thanks badger you built and mapped a very good engine

I think in reality the "truth" lies somewhere in between

Using a new BMW M135 we dyno'd the power figure was 3% lower than BMW and 5% lower on torque, so in reality the "others" which read "happier" than mine are some 11% over reading torque relative to std ........
Thats my gauge.. It reads ok, consistently.. and where we builds 600bhp cars with 470lbft of torque on my dyno, you know its going to be brutal acceleration. (quattro need only apply - lol)

To be fair badger I would rather it be under then over in my eyes. At least under it is a real power figure maybe slightly less but true some really happy dynos give people a figure that might be unrealistic

it compares extremely well to superflo engine dyno on the race car stuff we have run... (which I dont publish) for other engine builders..

A little teaser of what's about to go down !

They will definitely be a 'Hotpoint' of discussion.

It's good to be different though mate so good on you.

When I saw the first pic without them on the car I wasn't sure. Now I see them on the car I think think they suit it very well. I like them.

Thank you for the feedback, they do seem to catch people's eyes as I noticed at northweald today

I wouldn't normally enjoy seeing these on an 8L... But for some reason you've pulled it off and made them look good!

Another tiny little update finally got round to sorting the foglight holes, to tidy up the front end ....

FB IMG 1494952770526

After realising there were no brackets left to fix the foglights I decided to split the lenses, spray them satin black and stick them to the grill with tiger seal which has actually turned out ok I reckon ?
