Automatic Transmission Fluid change ?

Tried a search but couldn't find anything specific to the A/S3. Has anyone had this done ?

Wondering what the recommended service interval is and what people have paid to have this done at either Audi or an independent ? I'm thinking it's not practical to do at home ?
I've just been quoted £180 by a VAG specialist - is that about right ?

My car has done 30k and is stage 2 tuned and also has a TCU map so I'm thinking it wouldn't do any harm. It's had 3 oil changes, brake fluid has been replaced twice and Haldex fluid once so it's only ATF that's not been changed.

To be honest mate it's not really that hard to do your self think the oil and filter comes to about £70 from Tps if I can remember right, I have done mine twice an the cars done 25k it just take quiet a while for the fluid to go in around (40mins) would probably give it a try yourself if up to it mine took just under 6litres of oil if you need any help just give me a message

Have you also done your transfer box or and the rear diff oil?

Cool - thanks for the info. Did you need it up on a ramp or axle stands ?

Transfer box has been done and new Haldex pump fitted so I presume that's the rear diff oil ?

I had it on my ramp but am sure you would be able to do it on axle stands as a done my previous s3 8p on stands, there is rear diff oil and haldex oil is separate.

I think I'll have a crack at it myself with the front up on ramps. Guess it's under tray off to get at the drain plug ? Filter looks to be under the turbo air intake hose ?

Yes the filter is under the intake hose, have you got the filling tool?

No mate LoL you're a mind reader that was my next question just been watching some YouTube videos but can only find mk5 Golf but some of those have some sort of pump that presumably screws in place of the sump plug. Any recommendations from Amazon ?

This is the one I used but I think the first one will be a lot quicker and easier as this one is gravity fed which why it takes a while for the fluid to get through

Perfect !! Thanks for that I found it on Amazon but it's cheaper on eBay.

Last question for tonight I promise ;o) .... is it under tray off to do this or have Audi left a nice easy access hole or flap ?

Perform first at 60,000 km and thereafter every 60,000 km. DSG/S tronic - Change ATF oil and replace transmission filter element for clutch hydraulics DSG/S tronic - Change ATF oil for clutch hydraulics (A3 e-tron and A6 front wheel drive only) Rear sport differential - Change ATF for clutch hydraulics and differential oil (RS7 and RS7 performance only) Air cleaner - Clean housing and replace filter element only on the following vehicles: (RS7, RS7 performance, A8 TDI, A8 3.0T, A8 4.0T, and Q5 TDI)

With a tune I think it's good to reduce these intervals - im in the habit of replacing the engine oil every 6,000 miles so now could be a good time for me.

Do you think it's feasible for me to do the work under the hood changing the filter then taking it to a garage to do the fluid change ?

I've got the Revo carbon air box and intake and would rather them not mess with that as it's not bomb proof and pretty expensive so would prefer for me to do that part of the job.

I get that mate I'd do the same if I had the standard intake on but just concerned about the carbon bits being handled without care and damaged. I've done most of the work on the car myself so just looking into what's involved and the thread may then help inform others. Had the undertray off fitting the CTS boost pipes so that's straight forward. Also get your point about buying the tools but any subsequent use then you have them and are saving yourself cash I'm sure my oil extractor has paid for itself now against garage labour rates and it sounds like the fluid pump will also do the rear differential too.

Not done it myself and please verify with second source before possibly taking decisions based on this, but as far as I've read there are two methods.

A. Fill from top with exactly the same volume as you drained out.

B. Over fill and drain out the excess.
Method B requires car to be *level* and certain oil temperature (use vcds or obd11).

Method B is harder but better if done correctly since volume filled from factory is sometimes quite inaccurate.

Not read the other comments yet Rob, but dsg transmission oil is at 42k. I was going to get mine done (as car already there) but they said no...

I'm at 30k but fancy having it done as I think it's worth reducing the intervals when tuned.

Been quoted £130 parts close to cost or £180 fixed price to have it done so for the sake of £50 I'll probably go for that. Prob have the rear diff fluid changed at the same time.

Audi didn't want to do mine "because if there was a warranty claim later on, they'd want my car to be as close to the book / schedule as possible"
Perhaps this was due to my car being in there for 'the other thing'

When I did the 3.2TT DSG fluid change I used one of these to help re-fill faster.
