Hey all, I have an Audi A3 1.8tfsi 2010, and I am in the middle of ordering the parts (fuel, air, oil filters)
I don't need to change the oil, as I put 2 year oil in and it's only been 1 year. Do i need to change the oil filter if that's the case, could I leave that?

Also where can I locate the Fuel filter?

I would like to do this on my own as obviously it's expensive do get done in the garage.

Something I like to learn is maintaining my own cars but obviously need some guidance.

Thanks for any help given :)

Honestly I would change the oil every twelve months. It's probably one of the most important parts of your engine maintenance.

Yes 1 year oil changes should be done. The 2 yr long life oil is for high mileage business users. Plenty of our cars have suffered oil sludge clogging the oil pick up pipe and you don't want that.

Ok thanks mate, so no point of the 2 year oil then? It's been topped up with standard 1 year oil though as it's a guzzler on oil.

You think it might sludge up if i use 2 year oil and only change on the 2 year mark? I don't do huge mileage either to be fair I was just recommended it from a dealer and told i wouldn't have to change it for 2 years out 50k miles or something along those lines.

Ok mate thanks. Ill change that too. So is it worth doing the whole lot in 1 year? I've done about 5k miles.

First of all oil is changed every x millage not time passed (just to make example in 1 year I've done 4k miles and my dad 15k, my one still got plenty of life in it and my dads not.) , so around every 10k miles for original car (modded less), then if you are unsure check the condition of oil, anyway what service are you doing, normal or full? Full mean other than changing oil, air, fuel, cabine filters and obviously oil (there no clue changing filter and running on old oil), you checking whole car, tyres, suspension, liquid level, brake liquid level and condition etc... If you don't know what kind of oil was previously used in car, flush old oil and put new one (in your car should be 5w-30 synthetic). And don't be blinded by "longlife", still the same amount of metal pieces will be generated by use of engine so better in e.g. 20k miles do 2 oil changes rather than 1.

I'm hoping to do a full one. So check all fluids and tyres fuses as well maybe? Thanks for the oil tip I'll change the whole lot.

brake fluid should be changed every 2 years. for full one you will need to lift whole car (or in section) and check the underneath chassis (brakes, tyres, suspension (shock absorbers, springs, lower arm, stabilisation bar) oil leaks, coolant, oil in gearbox in some cases...
