Hi I am hoping to get this done to my car in the next couple of months. Audi have the car listed as sealed for life and so I guess it hasn't been changed in 135,000 miles, eek!
Anyway, I found these on the bay, anyone any experience of the oils or should I stick to more known brands, maybe even Audi's own?

I would prefer some makes I have used before myself but some are quite expensive and not sure it's actually worth it, appreciate your opinions, cheers :)

I am going to do mine soon, I'm on 68K
Audi prices it's about £160 for fluid only
I would be comfortable with alternatives as long it's right spec

I think they should be fine too, better nice clean correct spec oil than dirty old Audi stuff, I would just prefer if someone else could say they had used the oil and it was OK.

I'm guessing this is a tiptronic box, although just wanted to check! If it is, then ideally you'll need the part number from it too.

Reason being, if it IS a tiptronic, then sadly you really "should" use genuine Audi fluid, as most alternatives are known to cause problems. Again, if it IS a tiptronic then its a pretty expensive job!

Of course if its not a tip, then everything I've said is nonsense haha

It is Tiptronic and from what yiu say then I should really just stick to genuine Audi. It is an expensive job and not one you want to do twice. You sound like you know your stuff, do you have a VAG background? I did consider doing it myself but I don't really think it's a DIY job. I have done other autos but thet are more straight forward so ths is better left to someone who knows what they are doing and has Garage back up.

Sorry for the late reply, didnt see this!

I've no VAG background per se, but I'm an aircraft mechanic so usually do my own jobs, and I spent DAYS researching the fluid change LOL.

Annoying though it is, the best bet is to get the part number from the box so you know for sure. What car is it out of interest?

Dont get me wrong, you can use cheaper fluid, and some people have without problems. But others have used it and had to redo it all again with genuine fluid because it made the box worse. It all depends on the manufacturer it seems. The sure fire way to avoid problems is to use genuine, but as you know, its hoofing expensive!!

The box is a ZF code HNL/HKD, Its a 6 speed auto with Tip-tronic an fitted in a B7 A4 3.0 TDI quattro.
I am wondering about having another go at Audi, just tell them I want it changed, even though they don't recommend it. Only trouble is if anything goes wrong, maybe they will just say it's my own fault. Anyway thisis on a gearbox that to teh best of my knowledge has no faults. Once or twice it has been a bit sharp on acceleration from lights etc but I don't really think that's exactly a fault.

Im going through something similar now.

My '09 S5 has the tiptronic box and Audi just flat out refuse to change the fluid and filter for me quoting "It's sealed for life sir!"

Good local garages I trust want about £500 as the oil is so ludicrously expensive!

Had mine done recently - the oil was just over £30 a litre, strongly advise that you use VAG stuff. Although it is listed as 'sealed for life' my local VAG specialist services VAG taxis that have done massive mileage and he changes the gearbox fluid at the 90/100,000 mile mark.
