Is there a way to increase the brightness of the virtual cockpit? I know about the rotary switch down at the headlight cluster, but that's up full and there's sometimes I feel like my virtual cockpit isn't as bright as I'd like it to be.

Cheers

Thinking of changing my order to add vc is it worth it

Good lord I would live to be able to reduce the brightness below the allowed minimum I find it far too bright at night. I can't imagine wanting it brighter than max. How can you even see the road at that point it's like shining a flashlight in one's face.

Yes, its excellent!!

I've seen a few people now say about the brightness, can't say I've found any problems with it - but then we're all different lol

I have brightness issues with it myself, during the day both the VC and the center screen are not as bright as I believe they should be. It's on my list of tweaks to work out but the ambient light settings are very involved. I actually think that there maybe a firmware fix on the way as there are a few mmi / VC issues which need resolving.

That was another thing, doesn't seem to be an ambient light menu anywhere that I can find to control brightness either.

There is a setting for that - its in the 'car' menu and then lights.

I find the VC brightness OK during the day. It auto-adjusts the brightness and I don't have to fiddle with the manual adjust. At night, on country roads, the VC brightness is too bright for me and I have to turn it down manually. The centre MMI screen on the other hand is sometimes not bright enough for me to see it clearly. This is something I have noticed when I am using satellite navigation -the map view of the VC is fine but the MMI display (which has further details of the route, road numbers etc) can be hard to see. This is probably to do with viewing angle and only a problem in bright sunlight.

@Sam Millar yeah there is. Can't remember if it is in the settings section at the bottom of the MMI scroll, or the side menu when you're in the "Car" section. You can change the brightness and level of ambient lighting.

Never had an issue with the VC but the MMI screen does seem a bit dull sometimes.

@Tomo01 I absolutely love it!

VC and MMi screen use a sensor hidden to the right but within the water temp display to the right of the 130 (shine a torch on the water temp display you will see it) and the RLS sensor on the windscreen.

On days where it is bright but overcast it struggles because the RLS doesn't see it as "bright" and the dash sensor is shaded by the ridge in the centre of the dash from the light in the drivers window. If you imagine the LHD cars do not suffer from these issues as the sensor can see the ambient light all the time through the LH window as it is on the outside of the dash. You can confirm this, when you think the dash is a bit dim, put your finger on the cowling next to the sensor, the light bounces off your finger and the dash brightens!

I also think at night the dash is far too bright and have to use the dimmer knob to reign it in.

My car has been back to the dealers for this but they don't see it as an issue. Because of this I have raised a complaint with Audi UK. If you think your having the same issues please put a complaint in via the same channels to get some weight behind it.

Hi am new on this but I have a brightness issue as well had the car one week brand new Audi A3 saloon 1.4 tfsi virtual **** pit

4 months and 5000 miles and my VC display still flickers for a minutes every day, been messed about by Audi needing videos, then they had the car 24 hours. Now they say its something to do with the light sensor now they have finally looked at the videos.
No answer as to what they are going to do, only asked if the lights are in auto or not, tomorrow I have to try with the lights off and see if it drops into its flicker mode.
Have to say that my experience of Audi service so far is rubbish, already thinking if I should look into a change.

Here is what happens, it goes off around 19 seconds if you want to skip forward

Not sure why they have not changed this out under warranty. Would have been cheaper for them to do that than mess about trying to fault find it etc to component level. They cannot change out components anyway, so if the issue is with said sensor its a complete unit swap out and recode anyway.

I'm not sure either?
I did as requested and this morning drove the car with the light switch in the 'off' position, the display did exactly the same, after 1-2 minutes dropped to a very low level of brightness and then starts to scroll and flicker, after a while, can be 2 minutes can be 20 minutes it suddenly jumps to normal brightness.
I'll contact the dealer again today and see what comes of it.

Does anyone with the VC have it change brightness when the headlights come on at dusk (like the analogue dashes do) or is it all on the brightness sensor, or in my case the manual dimmer knob due to it being far to bright at night! Also have to turn the manual dimmer back up again in the morning otherwise i cannot see the dash in the daylight.

Although I can't say I've noticed the VC changing, I'm thinking it maybe does as I've also not noticed it being too bright at night.
I do know that the pop up screen in mine does as, even in daylight, I've seen the sat nav dim as heavy rain comes on and the headlights activate.

A seperate manual day and night brightness setting is required perhaps this will come in due cause as a firmware update just like with the MMI. Auto brightness was never going to suit everyone. At the best of times led screens can be a strain on the eyes especially when viewing in total darkness.

You wait in a few years time when every manufacturer is rolling out digital instrument displays they will then start offering anologue displays as an optional upgrade. Advertising it as a retro look a bit like an expensive Rolex watch. When the vehicle is turned off you have some nice clocks to look at but with an led display it's just a dark piece of Perspex devoid of any detail. I think we need a combination of both still.

Don't get me wrong I think VC is currently a great upgrade with the various customizable data options and displays it brings its a breath of fresh air and something new but when Audi cease rolling out updates and bug fixes that's when you are left with a piece of tech that may or may not work seamlessly not a problem if you change vehicle every couple of years. The more visual digital tech you have the more it will date quickly as manufacturers can easily bring out something new every year to make it seem outdated.

Digging up an old thread but I test drove an S3 the other day with a view to swapping back from my S5 and the first thing I noticed was how dull the display was compared to the vc and mmi in my current car.

Checked the settings and it was set to full brightness and the manual dimmer was on full brightness too.

Strange one, don’t know why it’d be so noticeable between the two cars.

My vc display is bright in normal daylight conditions and even more so on a sunny day...open the panoramic roof on a bright day the display gets even brighter, the display has auto adaptive dimming even during daylight weather conditions

Really annoying, never noticed it altering in my S5 maybe that doesn’t have the same setup. I’ve no issue with it at night, but during the daytime it does seem a bit dull. Might have to get Audi to take a look and check it out.
