Hello all,

I have a standard S line 3 spoke non multi function steering wheel fitted and have just purchased a flat bottom steering wheel with multi function buttons.

The new wheel part number : 8JO 419 091G and circular airbag part number: 8JO 880 201N.

My 2007 A3 has RNS-E and Cruise control, will I need a loom or slip ring etc to make everything work as it should?

I'm aware I have to code in the new wheel, is there a how to guide anywhere?

Cheers Rob.

I did this last year to a 57 reg..
You will need if you don't have them already:-
1) highline steering module. Part no 8p0953549F
2) airbag connector/loom that supports multifunction wheel. Old Part no is 8p0971589Q and I think it has been superseded by one that ends with 'ap'. You may not need this part though if it has come with the steering wheel/airbag.

3) Is the steering wheel you bought from an A3 or a different model?

Thanks Ab! Just what I was as after.

I'll find out if I've got the steering module. From what I read, if you have cruise control then you have the right one but now you've given me the part number I'll be able to check.

The guy selling it has the connector/loom but it's for a A4 B7 so will need to check if that's the same part number.

As for the wheel, the part number refers to an A3 but says it fits the A4 TT etc as well.

Thanks for your help

You can get a steering control module that supports cruise control but not mfsw. You for sure need an airbag cable that supports mfsw and it needs to be for A3 specific.

I did not do the retrofit myself but had it done by another guy. Some model as yours. See documentation of parts here: http://www.lightnings.dk/mfsw_en.html

Hi guys, got the loom I need and found it have the highline steering module fitted already. I've just fitted the new flat bottom multifunction wheel and then got stuck on where to plug the new airbag loom.
I've ordered 8P0 971 589 AD but can't figure out where to plug it into the 8J0 880 201 N 6PS airbag. Has anyone any photos or have I got the wrong loom for the airbag?

The loom I got with the wheel and airbag is 8J0 971 589 H and has 3 push on connectors and the new loom I ordered only has 2 and one of those is tiny!

Sorry it's uploaded twice and on the side The loom at the top is the one which came with the car which fitted a A4 B7 and ends in H and the bottom loom is the new one I ordered which ends in AD and has only 2 push on plugs.

You've got the right loom but I'm pretty sure that an a4 airbag is different to an a3 airbag so there might lie the problem

Might be worth possibly trying to use the loom that came with the steering wheel. Who is coding it in for you because you aren't going to know whether it's worked or not until it's been coded in anyway

All now fitted and coded in :)

Jjust for anyone else searching the net like I did, my steering wheel part number was 8J0 419 091 G and the airbag was 8J0 880 201 N (These fit the TT TTS TTRS A3 and R8.

The 8J0 971 589 H airbag loom which is for this airbag and steering wheel worked on my A3 and the 8P0 971 589 AD / ADQ loom which is for the A3 with multifunction does not fit that airbag.

Thanks everyone for their help :)

That's what I did after speaking to TPS, they kindly checked all the part numbers and looms to see if it would work. I got a local garage I know to code it for me and it now all works perfectly.

That is strange and the first time I have seen another loom working for an A3 when retrofitting mfsw.

I wonder if its because it's originally a TT part number being 8J0 not 8P0. I've got photo's to show you the back of the airbag and both looms if need be. It's the connectors on the new AD loom which are different to the airbag.

Sorry to labour the point. I have an Audi A3 8P 3.2 DSG 2007MY (facelift). It came with a 3 spoke NON MFSW with paddles. I have confirmed with Audi on ETKA that the car has the highline stering module (8P0953549F).

My installer has successfully retrofitted powerfold mirrors and cruise control. The units have been coded to the car - he has VAGCOM. He has also installed a 3 spoke MFSW with paddles but cant seem to get the MFSW bit coded to the car.

Is it because he might be missing this piece of wiring harness specific to MFSW or will the harness that has come with the car to support the paddles be the same wiring harness ?

Fortunately I have ETKA and from reading it, the 8P0 971 589 R part does not look correct for paddles and / or MFSW.

When my installer lifted the wheel off, he confirmed my car came with 8P0 971 589 Q harness (tick) and Highline Steering Wheel Control Module 8P0953549F. So, wheel was coded to 0010042. Now all working.
