Hi guys

My car is very gutless at e moment (I think it down to a boost leak).

But I've noticed that I can hear the turbo starting to spool up very quickly at 1000 Ron's.

Altought it's spooling up quickly, My boost gauge doesnt even make it to 0 boost and stays in VAC...lol (hence the boost leak).

But it's got me thinking. ..

What RPM can you hear your turbo starting to spool up ?

are you sure you can not hear the whistling of a vac leak and mistaking this for the turbo?

Thanks for the reply ;)

I definitely have a boost leave as my boost gauge hardly ever goes over -10 (VAC) and just about makes 0 if the cars really under load (going up a hill for example), I just need to pressure test it as all the usual culprits (under the manifold...etc) all seem ok).

But I was just curious at what RPM's others feel/hear their turbo spool up.

how far down does it go , under -20 , cos if you can hear it you must running lean as you will be pulling in unmetered air

At idle it sits at -20 as it always has ;)

Something else i did because i wanted to make sure the turbo was actually producing any boost was to squeeze the hose going into the throttle body and have someone rev the car up, this resulted in the hose filling up so much that i couldn't keep it squeezed.

I just finally got my intercooler working and that was whistling because of a boost leak.

regarding boost pressure - I don't get anything recorded above 0 unless I am driving - if revving on the drive the boost pressure only goes to 0 - if driving it goes to about 22PSI - this has been a nightmare trying to test with the crap pipe arrangement I have, as I keep having to repair the car on the side of the road (taking off the headlight etc) when a pipe blows off.

in reference to you when does the turbo spool up I cant tell sound wise as the cone filter is all I can hear but energy wise about 2.8K-3K (~15PSI) then at 3.5K it feels like full power (~20psi) up to about 5.5K then reduces back to (~15psi) <-- but my S3 is not very healthy

Glad you got it sorted in the end ;)

What I meant was that while driving the boost gauge only goes to -10 (vac), 0 if the cars under heavy load like going up a hill...etc. but at idle it sits at -20 vac.

So really I never get any positive boost...lol

ok , when my diverter valve was ****** and making a duck noise , lol , it really was , i was only making 6 psi , so first thing , take off your dump valve and block it off , 2ltre coke bottle cap will fill the pipe , after that , get a set of mole gripes , and block off your psv pipes , best one to check first is the one coming from the engine oil housing .

Thanks ;)

I checked my DV (forge 007) and its working as it should, I've also had a catch can fitted for years now so i've done away with most of the PCV hoses.
