Curbed the right rear alloy... Don't even understand fully how it happened... Parked half on the curb half on the street... Reversed slowly at a 45 degre angle (right rear going first over the curb)... Bang... Didn't even go and check because there was no way it could have happened... However this afternoon just casually checked the wheel... First thing I saw the piece of cut rubber... And my heart sank :-( Absolutely gutted... Profoundly annoyed with myself for not being double careful going on a curb which I knew was high in that part of the street compared to other areas...

So now what next?
Does the tyre need changing? Easy fix on the alloy?

These alloys

19” x 8.0J ‘5-V spoke’ design alloy wheels in matt titanium look, diamond cut finish with 235/35 R19 tyres

Warning! Very disturbing pictures!

Ouch I think you definitely need a new tyre I'm afraid. You can get alloys returned for circa £100+, google alloy repair in your area or even speak to your local Audi dealer and ask who they use.

My profound sorrow for your loss.
Alloy should be fine after refurb- that tyre is fubar though..

You can get a smart repair on that alloy, just have it buffed back and then clear coated (it can be done) and then you will retain the original diamond cut finish. Diamond cut wheels are never the same after a refurb.

The tyre is scrap :(

Very sad photos I know.

So need to change the tyre which means changing the other rear tyre eventhough they have less than 2k miles...

Do you think its necessary for both even only 2k down? Not disagreeing just interested, my initial thought would be just replaced the damaged.

Replacing 1 tyre should be fine if you buy another tyre the same.

Sorry, had to say that kerbs/pavements are for pedestrians

Just make sure the new tyre has the matching tread pattern. Had an unrepairable on the TT after 3k. Advised by dealer not to switch both. First tyre was supposed to be the same Conti, but very different tread. Second one the same, and never had an issue

Not sure in fact. Was just thinking it might be the logical thing to do.

I do agree. However the street is too narrow to have proper parking spaces on both sides so both sides use half the pavement with markings. Not that I park on the pavement where I shouldn't! Just to be clear :)

Ok I suppose I'm gonna pay a visit to Audi to see what they say.
I assume that replacing the 2 rear tyres with, say Michelin PS4 while keeping Contis at the front would be a bit unecessary...
So hopefully can get away with replacing just the one tyre with same Conti + a smart repair on diamond cut alloy.

Any wheel repair franchise I should avoid at at all cost?
Best would be to find someone who can smart repair the alloy + fit new tyre.

Fecking hell I'm so ****** off :-(

Audi will tell you to replace it. I had a nail in my tyre, that was pulled out and I never lost any air. Asked Audi thinking they would have a high tech solution to see if the tyre was vulnerable. The terrible Master Tech at Cardiff Audi said it's up to you, we can't tell you and I have seen the way you drive. That annoyed me a little. All depends on your relationship with the dealer.

I have the dreaded interior rattles in my car, I went out on test with him and we swapped over.. I accelerated spiritively out of a lay-by onto a busy dual carriageway, I don't see how that is worthy of a comment like that but there we go. Not that any S3 driver is going to drive totally innocently.

This was the same technician that told my Dad "What do you expect with a 7 year old car?" Dad went to him with his A4, the engine didn't sound quite right.. out came the master tech, he huffed and puffed when he saw it was a 56 plate car and said what do you expect. What a good advertisement they are of Audi's quality.

There was another dig at Cardiff Audi's service department, oops :p

So true about the diamond cut refurb bit! I didn't know this and got one of my wheels refurbed and it was so noticeable (to me anyway)

The damage isn't on the diamond cut surface looking at the pictures so wouldn't matter if he had a local repair or full refurb, there'd be no need for them to machine the diamond cut face.

Problem is cutting into the wheel, you end up with a white outline around the diamond cut edge because the shape of the wheel is then changed :(

Audi did all 4 on my A3, they cut them all to the maximum and the wheels had a big white outline. I am SO careful with my wheels now.

Only if they masked around the diamond cut finish. If they painted the whole wheel, it would have to be machined to get the face back.

My Dad recently had his wheel repaired, only an area about an inch in size and is much better than a kerbed wheel.

Sorry to be reading this. Ouch on the tyre and wheel. Grab a bargain from @Rob2k68 that will save you a bit.

Would love to meet @Rob2k68 but it's a bit too far out :)

Sorry to hear of your woes mate having a couple of wheel related issues myself. I could investigated posting a tyre out but couldn't physically send it until Friday I have one with 6mm of tread left.

Also not sure if you have seen this but I've bought from this seller before and can vouch for him :-

If you're near Wiltshire I have two part worn Continental tyres you can have. Or if anyone else wants them...?

Talked to an Audi tyre specialist today. The tyre is safe - no need to replace it unless I really want to.
£125 + VAT to fix the alloy - smart repair
Need to leave the car with Audi for the day.
Another quote by a mobile repairer was £170
Probably will go with Audi on this one.
