As this sounds like a part that tends to go a fair bit on Audi's, is there a way to periodically clean it up to maintain it?

I'm sure I've heard people talking about removing their EGR and cleaning out the carbon and refitting, or am I imagining it?

Alternatively, are there any fuel additives that might help keep it clear and prolong its life?

Mine has just gone due to coolant leaking out of it at 60k miles, hence me thinking about some sort of service regime...

Assume diesel car? Things that can help (once you've fixed the current problem):-
Premium fuel for a cleaner (and thus less carbon ) burn
Avoidance of too many short journeys as lack of prolonged heat = carbon build up
Correct engine oil so that the carbon/ash content of recycled oil vapours is minimized.
Personally, I stick in a cleaner every six months or so. Forte and Wynns have had good reviews http://www.autosessive.com/products...=40f7c99cd50669ec87e4a6224a954fc6&fo_s=binggb
Not had a problem myself - 82,000 on the clock with a mix of some short and longer drives.

Thanks very much for the reply mate, I already do all of those things (I don't do any short journeys in it at all) but I've never used cleaner so I might give that a go :)
