What have you done to your A4 b6 today?

Today was new glow plugs day..
Had everything lined up and ready to go.. I started with the plug behind the fuel filter, which BTW, was a pain in the back side..
Took the fuel filter off no problem. Unscrew it's bracket and when I tried to get it out it wouldn't..
So I moved it to the side to give me some room to work..
With this done I start the job in hand and swapped all 4 plugs..
after all 4 plugs swapped was putting everything back together I touched the fuel filter bracket and it simply fell of its place..
I wanted to kick and scream everything but didn't..
Afterall the job was already done..

Here the pics..

Any reason why you fitted shorter black coded glow plugs instead of the correct green coded plugs ?

or did you not notice ?

Literally spent the whole weekend looking for a cheap but 'private' number plate.
Tried all sorts of clever combinations to get a good one.

Luckily mine came with the plate A4 ***, looked it up & it's worth about £250 .... Good luck with your search Dan.

Today I've booked my car in for a 15 point health inspection and a battery inspection at halfords auto centre.
It's struggled a little to turn over last 2 days so thinking battery is on its way, measured with a voltmeter and got 12.3 so I know this is purely an indication and not hugely accurate but I thought why not get the free health checks at halfords to confirm.
Halfords checks include;
  • Are horns and lights working correctly?
  • Are brake drums, discs and pads corroded, scored or distorted?
  • Are the brake hydraulic system, hoses and pipes free of corrosion, chafing and leaks?
  • Do the wheel callipers/cylinders work properly? Are they leaking?
  • Does the brake servo work correctly?
  • Is the ABS warning light displaying?
  • Are handbrake linkages in good condition?
  • Do wheel bearings need replacing?
  • Are tyres in good condition? Is the pressure correct?
  • Have shock absorbers weakened?
  • Are there signs of wear, leaks or corrosion on the steering and suspension components?
  • Do the gearbox and clutch work correctly?
  • Are propshaft/drive shaft gaiters and joints secured?
  • Is the exhaust system secure and leak-free? Is it making a noise?
Quite a handy check list as they'll tell you about basically any MOT failures prior to an MOT, for FREE :-D

I know it's nicknamed halfrauds, but I think their garages are pretty good, mate had an MOT done there and it passed no advisories, considering a previous garage said he needed 4 new tyres (which he didn't, I checked, just 1 needed and replaced before MOT) I think that's good!

Ah I think they'll be ok, it'll be interesting as taking it to a mate for a new clutch the weekend so he'll tell me if they were honest or not :)

Ah good stuff as for fun I searched for 'A4 Cab' .Of course it was already taken but my search consisted of trying to make words as I did it for a laugh and wanted the car behind to smile or find it amusing. In the past I would have settled for the usual;

Month of Birthday (one letter) - Date of birthday (one or two letters) - First initial of full name (3 letters)

Which is what everyone usually gets as its cheap and means something to the individual person.

..anyways, thanks for the good luck, it helped! Ive found the perfect plate and when its on the car, I will reveal

:p

Okay, my honest no holds barred opinion of the SMF flywheel. I have encountered vibration at low speeds that wouldn't present a problem with a DMF, is it a problem or is it caused by the efficiency of the DMF.
As I see it, the DMF does such a good of smoothing things out you can drive in a gear higher than you would/should with SMF. It's only ever encountered in second or third at less than say 1400 rpm's. I maybe just need to adapt driving style to suit SMF. Just keep the revs a little higher at slow speeds and the problem will never arise.
Only affects slow speed/town traffic if you insist on using higher gear/low revs, it could be that's what kills the DMF, a victim of it's own success if you like.

I've been using SMF's since 2007, in cars Audi models that had DM as standard. I've never encountered any sort of vibration, even at low speeds and relatively high gears.

The issues with vibration, and low-speed, high-gear situations, generally arise if the flywheel itself is low quality, incorrectly balanced during manufacture, or too light for the engine characteristics.

Thanks for your advice, I've contacted the seller to see what they say. I hadn't left any feedback till I had tried it out for a decent period of time. So they either play ball or I'll raise a complaint, if they do the decent thing and replace the flywheel I'm still gonna have to do it again.:wtf:

I know the feeling. Pulling a B6 Quattro trans twice in a short period of time, is a pain.

Literally yeah it is, especially doing it solo, but I could do it again with the benefit of hindsight. Or just learn to hold second/third gear a little longer, there doesn't seem to be any issues elsewhere.

Fitted the rear S4 bumper... now I just need to fit the B7 1.8T exhaust tomorrow...

Wahlstrom, so you work in an ambulance station?? Just noticed the load of scoop stretchers and trolley. Are they vacuum stretchers next to them?

Yes I do..
Yes they are vacuum stretchers for immobilisation..
Probably punctured since they lay there..

Just fitted the exhaust..
looks just right.. I thought about putting on some 100mm tips, but these looks great..
It is just a diesel.. not a S4

Very Nice Wahlstrom. Im going for the 100mm tips after I get a full custom exhaust. My tips are literally lost behind my rear valance.

These are 76mm and stock B7 1.8T..
Quite bigger than the B6 1.8T
Was my car a S4, then I've would have fitted the 100mm too

Well soon to remove and replace the clutch again :wtf: Due to the fact that the kit supplied has a lighter flywheel that the original, this causes vibrations in either second, third or fourth between 20 and 30 mph, not good. Yes it might accelerate quicker but the loss of refinement isn't a compromise I'm prepared to make. It's unfortunate that I have to do the job twice but that's life, just when you think things are peachy you get a big kick in the teeth. :puke2:

Fitted my B7 S4 wheels, as an interim measure, when I'll be fitting genuine B7 RS4 9"x19" hoops, with correspondingly wide rubber:

Nice look and stance Nollywood.

Will you be running 255/35/19's then on your soon to be Rs4's ? Whilst that spec is OEM Im running 235/35/19 with a bit of stretch but barely noticeable.

Reason being, AP coilovers are to be installed and was told 255 rubber kinda rubs if lowering. Having said that, I only want to lower so that the arch meets the tyre..or a shade above.

Thanks, Dr Strange.

I'll most likely be 265 or 275/35x19. I won't be going much lower, if at all, than a standard B7 RS4.

Still to be decided.

Ah I see!

In which case a 265 wrapped over the 19x9's would be perfect. 275 would fit but its overkill for the 9inch wide.

:)

Nollywood are you running the 12/15mm spacers in your sig with the B7 S4 wheels ?

Yes, I am.

The tyres fill the wheel arches a bit more, compared to the original 17" wheels. More because they're slightly wider, as the offset is the same on both sets of wheels, at ET45.

Thanks for that, have the same wheels on my cab so now off to source spacers :)

Love the look of your Avant Nollywood, just wish mine looked so clean!

Was kinda bored and looking for something to do in my car.
Since I didn't have anything else to do took my air panel filter off cleaned, washed and dried it and it's back in the car again..

Fitted a new coolant temp sensor. So exciting having a working gauge! My friend was changing his timing belt as I let my engine cool down and when he was finished it was still a bit warm but we thought "it'll be fine", the fountain of coolant that came out was spectacular! Hahaha!

Plasti diped rear audi rings and chrome boot strip. Also fitted aero flat rear wiper arm and blade as the old one fell off like 6 moths ago lol.

Tried (again) to locate the recurring oil leak. Gave up and booked it into the garage near work.
Hurt my pride a little, but I'm sick of lying underneath it in the cold haha.
