A3 8VS LED Tail Light Upgrade Issue

Hi Everyone,
I just Upgraded stock Halogen Tail Lights to LED Tail Lights on my new A3 8VS.

The new lights look great and work like a charm.

There is a slight problem with the way the new LED Tail Lights operate.

The stock Halogen Tail Lights had a common bulb and a common wire for Headlights and Brake. The bulb would glow when the Headlights were switched ON (Parking, Low Beam, High Beam) and the same bulb would glow brighter when the Brakes were applied.

Now, I have the same thing happening to the LED Tail Lights. The Brake Light portion of the Tail Light turns ON when the Headlight is switched ON (Parking, Low Beam, High Beam) and when the Brakes are applied, it glows brighter.

Is it possible to fix this????

Are they genuine lights? Have you had them coded correctly with VCDS?
 
They are genuine / original Audi A3 8VS Tail Lights.
No coding was done.
Is there a coding that needs to be done? Please help with the coding !!!
 
Once you do your research I'll happily assist where I can.

If it's anything like the MK7 when retrofitting the rear LED tail lights, you need to move some pins on the BCM.
 
My car also has J519, like Mk7, so it should be the same.
What pins needs moved?
Would you have a Electric Circuit pinout of A3 please? I have been researching for it and the newest one is 2000, nothing later than that.

Have the coding information within a spreadsheet as I have assisted with retrofits of this kind. PM me your email addy and will send it over.

I looked into doing this but noticed the pins were different from the halogen to the led one. Did you have to do any modifications?

Who do you know whos done this!? the old 8P harness cable is easily avaliable but I counded the pics from those cables and the new lights and they didn't match. Point me to any of the guys Alex?
 
All of the guys (from Facebook and other forums) I have done the coding works for already had the physicals installed before popping over as I don't have a garage / workshop space as yet. One I know did the cabling himself and the other two sourced the needed 3rd party harness from the USA I believe. I will look up the wiring / current flow diagrams later tonight and drop you a link.

I would have thought Kufatec would have these for sale but having just looked at their site there is nothing listed.
 
No major modification. Need to update the coding after installation.
Alex was a tremendous help in this.

Yes.
The only problem you will have is that the brake light will be on with the LED lights. But that can be taken care of via VCDS coding

Thats interesting, because I have a SB and accidentally bought 3DR rear LED lights thinking they were the same shape. Anyway after kicking myself of this silly error I looked at the connections from the back of the halogen rear lights and it wasn't even close to the shape of the LED rear cluster lights. I'm really interested how if this is such as 'straight' swap.

Right, got the 'right clusters' now. Will see if its a plug and play and need any further coding later tonight.
 
Okay, another quick update. I have the correct lights but the pins are different to the oem. I dont know how others have just plugged in their existing wiring because the standard holgen rear sides are 3 pin and the LED version are 6 pins. Will check what electrical wiring diagrams or check if there are any harness available.

So I've taken some photos of the existing connectors and I'm stuck on what to use. I've seen on ebay there are some audi a3 8p wiring loom LED cluster upgrade but the connector pins do not match. Anyway here is the picture and if anyone knows of any wiring loom to purchase please let me know.

I am going to attempt this upgrade and my current lights are halogen, if anyone is interested I'm a thinking of manufacturing an adapter harness using a 3D printer and a bit of cunning. If you are interested reply to this and when I get round to it I will make more than one.

Hi i have a few questions i have purchased the rear led tail lights & have access to my own vag com running on the latest software could you confirm how you installed & coded these in ?

is it a plug & play ?

also regarding the brake light running with the led lights how did you address this issue ?

Installing is replacement like for like. Take the bolts which hold the original housing and put the new led versions in.

It's the wiring you need to give the most thought. The halogen is a 3 pin and the led is a 5 pin. If you know how to rear electrical wiring you need to adapt these. I didn't do the self but got a audi speciality to do this work for me.

If someone is interested I found how to code the inner parking lights to not blink with the turn signals.
 
Hi

I found out that the adapter cables i bought was for a 3-door sportback and did therefore not work with my 5-door sportback.
I bought some new cables, which came with a different coding, and then it worked for me.

Sorry guys I might be in the wrong thread here. My issue is that my tail lights go brighter when I press the brake. No seperate brake light.
A3 sportback halogen to led tail light upgrade. I am looking for coding and wiring instructions if anyone still have it. Thanks in advance

Hi mate, did you get any info as I’m going to try the upgrade today
 
No not yet. Been too busy. I ended up buying the plug n play harnesses for €150 incl. Shipping.
