Hi guys,

I drive a 07 S3 8P. And when I move off, I can hear a screaching noise as if i have the brakes applied and they are about to wear off. Anyone ever have this? And what could it be?

Have you checked to see if there is a small stone or grit on your discs, this can cause squeaking.

Is your car a DSG (S-Tronic) or manual, if its a dsg you might have automatic hill hold assist.

Car is manual. But will check for the stones or grit. It sounds like it is coming from the right rear wheel.

It sounds like something to do with the brake disc. Because it is as if at a certain point when the wheel is turning it makes that squeeking whistling noise.

I think it has something to do with the brakes because when i touch the break a bit the noise dies out. And it is not consistent when the noise happens. Recently got the rear brake pads fitted so surely they did not do a good job.

Maybe the pads are sticking slightly.
My old car would make the same noise when in reverse.
Take the wheels off and grease the caliper slides.

I am getting it checked out on Saturday. Hopefully it is a quick simple fix.

Just needs the calipers and pads removed, clean of the dirt and brake dust and re-assembly with a smear of brake grease/copper slip. One common problem with rear brakes on our cars is sticking calipers, the pistons can seize but try a good clean up first.

So I took the car in on Sat and they greased the pads for me. Sounds to be sorted now.

Thanks everyobe for your input.
