RS3 Saloon/Sportback pre-sales in March 2017 - delivery starting July - Official

Some people say that those pictures surfraced on the web quite some time ago. (A few months ago)
But keep in mind that the coolant issue is only a problem in EU-Countrys. (Germany especially)
Coolant Problem is known since like November or something.... In any way it was know before 13th December 2016.

The issues we have over here might not concern you in NZ.

Could be very true that you guys get the TT-RS & RS3 Sedan before we do in Germany.

Is there any more info on the "coolant" issue? From what I've seen, it was stated as an issue for the EU markets due to legal/environmental reasons.

However, if it's a core engine issue with coolant, then surely all markets are affected?

The problem is basically that Audi is not allowed to use the old refrigerant anymore.
The old refrigerant is bad for the environment but can sustain high temperatures.
That is not the case with the new refrigerant they're working with. Its better for the environment but it ignites too fast in case of a crash for example.

Some say its a problem of the new 5 pot aluminum block others say its a problem in general.

There was something in the news today that Audi will start to use CO² air conditioning in the future. Whether that means the TT-RS coolant issue is solved or not? I don't know.

Whether they sell the TT-RS / RS3 Sedan outside of EU with the old refrigerant as not know as well.

Very interesting, so what refrigerant is in the TTRS cars that are being delivered in Germany and Europe at the moment? From what I can see with the TTRS is not that it's delayed, it's that they're sold out or dealers have allocation but won't negotiate price because of demand.

Refrigerant is unlikely to be an issue in NZ -- we're always a few years behind those kind of requirements. ;)

Old: R134a which is being used in the current RS3 and the "40 Years 5 Pot Edition Thingy TT-RS".
Bascially what Audi did was relabel the HEA's (the cars which get ordered by the dealers and have a specific spec. For example Variant1: Red with adaptive dampers, Variant2: grey with 20" wheels etc.) "Edition 40 years" and sold them.
The German Federal Motor Transport Authority basically told Audi its okay for them to sell the TT-RS until 31.12.2016 with the old R134a.
After that it was said that they have to stop selling them.
For some reason Audi got a exception permit which let them sell those "40 Years Edition" cars in 2017 as well.
But there seems to be a production stop because some have reported that some of the dealer preordered TT-RS have been canceled.

After 31.12.2016 cars are required to use the coolant R1234yf which is highly flammable which leads to said problems with the heat of the 5-pot eninge.

All that stuff concerns the TT-RS but since it shares its engine with the RS3 sedan it might be affected by the same issue.

That explains a lot, thanks for the info. Looks like non-EU markets have the upper hand then, as the EU markets will be delayed by this coolant issue.

Can we in the UK have our FL RS3's sooner as we've voted Brexit? :footy:

If we don't get a deal on import/export charges it will add £1,800 to cost of the average vehicle apparently :(

Have all you guys in the UK who are waiting on the appearance of the RS3 saloon or FL Sportback checked out what is happening on car tax from April of this year. You are gonna need some deep pockets if you want a new car. If I am reading it correctly, then you are looking at around £1200 added to the car price plus addition £310 per year for a car over £40k making it £450 to tax each year for 5 years. Unbelievable!!

This surfaced on a German forum today.
The spec sheet states a four cylinder. Hope thats an error.

I've just a note from my dealer saying that the RS3 sedan has been delayed, production was planned for CW04 but on 20th January Audi AG advised it has been moved to CW10...meaning RS3 sedans will not arrive in NZ until June rather than April as previously advised.

Audi really are utter sh*te with their product planning.

However, an S3 at the present time is £185 a year to tax. As long as you keep it under the 40k Mark then you'll pay £140. As will someone running a 1.2 Corsa!!! Flat rate of £140 per year below 40k unless you drive an electric car.

A lot of people running the more expensive hybrid cars (Lexus for example) are not gonna be pleased.

I have a feeling that many UK members on here that have been avidly waiting for the appearance of the FL Sportback or Saloon, will have their ambitions thwarted by the higher price of cars when you start adding the options (unless you are happy with base spec) and then the massive road tax hike and subsequent annual running costs. At a rough guess I suspect that we will be looking at between £50 and £55K for a good spec car?
It will have to be one of those cars that you really, really, really want to own, and you are prepared to stump up the cash. I can't see dealers wanting to discount the new cars for a while either.
I own the current model and absolutely love it, and I may have considered changing for the newer model next year (if it eventually appears) but I now find myself wondering if the price will be beyond being acceptable for an A3 hatchback with a powerful engine and some big brakes!
Maybe I 'll just keep mine for a bit longer.:grinning:

Surprised nobody picked up on the mention of the rear wheel drive R8.

Well spotted, 'Heckantrieb' (rear drive). Maybe following in the footsteps of the recent Lambo Huracan rear drive cars? It didn't mention that an engine option may be a V6 twin turbo, probably the same unit from the new RS4/RS5.

I wonder when all the specs will be available in the U.K. To browse over....

By the time it comes out, the rest of us will be ready for changing our pre FL cars :)

The longer it takes though, the more dated the FL will be, that's the only thing. Most of the changes are just cosmetic plus the introduction of the virtual cockpit. Lighter engine & all that but essentially the same car.

By this time next year the 8v will have been out pushing 6 years, so I'm really not sure I will invest £50k if my money to get another at that point.

I'm gonna be interested to see if they do release an RS4 saloon, if they do then that could easily tempt me as I'm really liking the S4 a lot right now - exterior & interior looks stunning !

Most probably a V6 I guess .... I don't see that as a bad thing though. Should be silky smooth & plenty of grunt !

I won't want an estate though ... that shape does nothing for me - otherwise would have to consider an RS5 .... but prefer the look of the 4 & shorter front doors & usable back doors.

I've thought about all that too. I think though that we are at least 2 years away from an all-new A3, and then it will be a couple of years after that before the RS3 variant. That's 4 years, all going well. I'm happy with that and by that time I'll be ready for something else. Not to mention this is a MAJOR facelift, new body panels, new lights, new options, new MMI, virtual cockpit, new engine (which is a real cracker) -- that's a lot by any measure.

I'm expecting this might me my last internal combustion engine car...electric next time, maybe.

I think if you haven't got an RS3 already then the face lift would be fine ... I'm just wrestling over if I'd want one, coming from a pre FL. if the FL is only available for say a year again, I would either need to snap one up or decide what other car I'd move onto as the next RS3 could be a couple of years once the FL RS3 ceases production & as we've seen with Audi their availability & release patterns are very unpredictable ! I don't want to be in a window where my options are limited or I'm left frustrated waiting for ages as some are right now.
