hope someone can help had my engine rebuilt after oil pump chain snapped. car runs well but the tempeture gauge only just gose above the 50 mark and very little heat. changed the therstat no change. if someone can give me some ideas how to solve it thanks. andy12

have you tried another thermostat , when you changed it did you use a good quality oem replacement stat or a cheap aftermarket one

process of elimination , stat will be controlling engine temp , if its not reaching operating temp then the stat is staying open, or not closing properly.
Or the temp sender not working properly and the gauge is reading low at the time.

do you get hot air in the car from your heater on maximum heat or just warm, if just warm then its your stat that's the problem , if it hot then its probably the temp sender.

thanks for your reply as i said the car had engine rebuild which tock longer than what i hope for .its running cool changed thermostatic still runs cool very little heat though vents put some stuff in the cooling system and get better heat still not the best as told as it sat for quite a while i was told the heater matrix may have clogged up any other ideas ?

Try flushing the heater matrix, this should help remove any blockages. I had this on my Mk5 Golf GTi, it did work.

All you do is disconnect the inlet and outlet pipes in the engine bay side and run a open hose through to clear any old rust and coolant residue. This should restore the heating.

Make sure you bleed the system well to ensure you have no air in the system.

There are plenty of guides on how to flush the heater cores on YouTube. If that doesn't improve it, it sounds like you will need to replace it.

Try it first.. It only takes about 15 mins to do and it's free!
