Sean's Phantom Black B7 A4 2.0T Quattro

what did you search on ebay bud to find it. cant seem to find it now

Have put money aside for one of these bad boys which I'll be buying next week. Have a fair idea of what piping and silicone I'll need so going to be everything separate and calculated all costs and should be under €300. Gonna have a go at fitting it myself too. If anyone has fitted an fmic and can give me any tips, fire away it'd be most helpful!

The core size is 550x175x64mm and it's 2.5". Can't wait to get started with it. Had a toyosports wellycooler on my Cupra R and it made a massive difference!

Went and fitted my TIP this morning, needed a bit of cutting to fit snug as the filter is huge!!

Great little upgrade, seems to hold boost better as well. Gives a slight different hum to the exhaust now which I like. I'll be able to give it a good test later on. Looks the part but I really hate the colour of that filter hahah!

Just worries me with the lack of a shielding there, host soak is going to cause a bit of a issue.

Wouldn't bother pal, that shield will do very little.

I have one of those shields with a K&N filter, with one of the engine bay covers over it. So I don't think I get that much heat soak as such as I have fresh air coming in through the OEM cold air intake and also the hole in the inner wing.

I may get a little but it's basically in it's own little area under the bonnet. And the amount of heat soak whilst driving will be minimal.

Sean, all looking sweet pal!

Do write up some stuff on the FMIC..reviews etc as im eyeing up the ToyoSports one too, as well as others.
I know the actual bar should fit both B6/B7's but not sure about pipe work.

Anyways, very motivating stuff. :)

I'll grab a picture tomorrow if it all. At the moment I have one I got off a member on here that had a split in it to try out first but I've found one that will fit nicely with a slight offset. The shield is off the same guy you posted above but the filter it too large at the wide end so the front cold air intake sits a little too high/proud and as for the pipe work it's all OEM so plug and play.

I'll also get the part number for the new filter I'm going for.....it's basically the same size but slightly offset.

As for heat soak I've just been out after letting the car sit for 10 minutes after a little spirited driving and the turbo side of the heat shield is still at 63.4 degrees yet the air fiter side is at 22.3 degrees.....so thats roughly a third of the engine side. Which I think is quite good for it to have just been sat there.

If I go out again tomorrow and I remember to do it I will see what my IAT's are at, compared to both the engine and filter sides of the heat shield.

Thanks fella's, the heat soak did worry me a little yes so I used the OEM heatshield from the original airbox for now until I do a proper job on it. Hopefully before the summer.

I'll be sure to upload as much information when I start tackling the FMIC myself, also eyeing up a 2.5" decat to marry up to my standard exhaust, with a bit of modification it can be done, read it online on Audizine, just need a reducer. Most of the restriction is in the cat so I'll start there and work my way back, can't go wrong for the price either!

Had the car in for testing, failed on first attempt with a cracker windscreen, worn flexi hoses for the brake lines and a loose headlight.. got it all fixed and two weeks later she passed no problem.. yay!

Next I went and got a quote for fitting my test pipe. Very good quote so going to go ahead with it tomorrow as my test pipe arrived from the uk yesterday

Very happy with the quality of it, came with two gaskets and nuts and bolts, can't go wrong with the price! Will need some spacers for the lambda sensor so it won't throw up any errors.

Will update more when I have it fitted.

I do like how low your car sits Sean.....I'd have no splitter or sills left on my car if I did it that low.

And that's a nice Shiny Pipe you have.....I do hope Rob doesn't see it as he'll have another decision to make then!

certainly interested to see you review on this bud.

getting my bonus from work in march so have a long list of parts im buying for the car and would maybe add the test pipe if its any good.

fyi, a couple of tings on the list is a s2000 air filter and silicone intake so im basically mirroring your car haha.

got a gfb dv+ delivered yesterday so going to be fitting that tomorrow. not sure if you have one of them.

Yeah she sits very low but not stupid low where you can't drive it anywhere, I want to bring down a notch or too but undecided if its worth it cause the roads are so bad over here! Even with 19's it still rides lovely. And as for the splitter, mines not in the greatest shape so we're in the same boat there :D

And I can't see Rob not buying one now after seeing how shiney it is in the picture hahah..

No problem dude, I'm glad they interest you and I'm certainly happy with the parts so I'd say go for it!

Yep I fitted my DV+ just before I got my car mapped. The combo of sports DV, TIP, Air Filter and a map is great, you will see a massive difference (well I did anyway) so coupled with the test pipe it should be even better! To say I'm excited is an understatement, I'm buzzing to get this on!

yea a map will be on the cards at some point too mate.

in the next month il be fitting new brakes all round, getting the coolant flange replaced(leaking) and getting the timing chain done too. new tyres and just a few general bits and bobs.

its about time I spent some money on her, I can be a right tight a**e haha.

Best advise would be to get the car sorted before you went with any performance upgrades, less of a risk of breaking the car you know?!

It'll be worth it in the end once you have everything done and then you can go mad modifying it!!

Map should be definitely at the top of the list once your car is sorted, night and day difference with mine.

yea I agree mate. ive already done loads on the car, the main thing I want doing at the moment is the timing chain just for piece of mind more than anything. then when I do look to remap it il have save up and get a new clutch and flywheel as they are stupidly priced.

Finally went and got my decat fitted yesterday and all I can say is WOW! What a difference it has made to the car, quite enough on normal tick over and low revs but when you open it up and on full boost it's an anti christ! Lovely sound, quicker turbo spool and harder pull straight up after the mid range. I'm delighted with it and glad I went with it. Couldn't give a proper test as there was a lot of traffic yesterday evening as well as a lot of rain so come the weekend when I'm back from holiday I'll be able to give a better test but for now I'm smiling ear to ear!

Don't have any pictures of the install unfortunately just the one of how it looks inside the bay.

From speaking to the technician who fitted the part he said it wasn't a straight forward fit. My original bolts were seized and had to be cut out and the new bolts supplied had to be modified to fit which meant he had to drill the original holes wider to make them fit. Also used two spacers for the lambda sensors so no CEL light came on. All in all chuffed with it, would recommend to anyone looking for a cheap enough power upgrade without going full turbo back.

Next on the list is to vinyl wrap the chrome trims as well as the door blades so give that black edition/stealth look. Then refurbishing my speedlines to get them ready for the first Vag show coming up, Dubshed.

good to hear mate. will be something getting added to the long list of things I want.

You will have to try up load a video of how it sounds. id like mine to be quite when normal driving around but then have a nice noise when you open it up, by the sounds of it that's what yours is like now.

So so good Sean. Thanks for sharing.

Im going De-cat at some point and my question is, are you getting it mapped soon?

Reason being..as a result of the de-cat pipe the car's air and fuel mixture is out so assume you *should* get it mapped asap ? Heard all types of stuff with car going into limp mode as a result.

Cheers mate. That list you have is definitely getting bigger!!

I have a before video which I took over the weekend, when I'm free I'll make an after video as well. This is definitely want you'd want by the sounds of things, not stupid loud but a lovely rasp when you want it to be.

Definitely go for Decat buddy!! Mine already is mapped, had it mapped last year then coupled with the rest of the performance upgrades it makes for a very quick car for a 2 liter saloon. Might add it's lucky its a Quattro! Definitely helps.

sounds like a great job chap, was it easily sourced and what about costings, I was temped to get one a while back but kinda held back as most MOT test garages near me don't let decat mods go though....even if one does know the tester well, they say it's just not worth the agro if there was any comeback on them for letting it pass with a decat pipe.
maybe a sports cat is the way to go but I suspect they are stupid money.......good work all the same chap.

It's trying to find a sports cat that's the issue rob, other than 034 motorsports there isn't any.

sounds like a decent price, still not 100% sure i'm really up to fitting it then removing it everytime I go for an MOT.....may just bite the bullet and look for a sports cat....

Yeah from doing homework before the only sports cat I've found for our cars is from 034m and they are silly money, not worth it IMO.

The one I got only cost me €100 to deliver to my house and a few hours labour to fit it, I'm delighted with it overall and am happy I went with it. Parked in an underground car park after work and my god on the way out I was like a child on Christmas Day!!

The only downside to this decat is the fact that you will more than likely have to swap back to the old one for MOT purposes, bit of a pain but hey, that's the fun with modifying cars :D
