Having not wanted to shell out for the phobe box I bought a cheap wireless charger off amazon to see if it would work plugging it into the USB under the arm rest.

Charged the phone fine. Its not a fast charge but did more than enough to keep it alive.

Been thinking about this the past few days and initially planned to change my order to include the option.
Now I know its not worth £325 but I’m a sucker for neat integrated solutions and gadgets.

Thing is I’m an Apple sheep (don’t judge until you’ve tried it…you’ll never go back!)
I know it’s currently not supported, but thinking of future proofing here, as rumours are ripe of the
next gen phone having it - but I don’t trust Apple not to develop there ‘own’ system and ignore the industry standard Qi.

So my planned solution is similar to yours, I also stumbled upon this post yesterday (amongst many others)

Will be purchasing a slim wireless card to go into the back on my iphone 6 case and a charging pad to go in the armrest.
Just need to phone a phone holder for the armrest to make it appear OEM

Besides the Audi iPhone phone case is hideous!

If you'd like to integrate it more, you could buy a Qi charger and affix it to the underside of the plastic armrest box. Then you could drop your phone in and it would charge without seeing an actual charger.

I'd suggest a larger coil qi base like this one... http://www.ebay.com/itm/371814870913

I used to be apple mad but went galaxy s7 edge when I upgraded last time. I did think I might regret the change but actually I really like the phone and haven't looked back. That said I'm still using an iPad.

I have Qi under the arm rest of my 2016 S7, which also integrates to the inbuilt aerial etc.

Great idea, but actually proving to be a PITA, as I get a lot of calls and messages outside of the traditional mobile operator (i.e. Skype, WhatsApp, FB Messenger etc.) None of which integrate into my 2016 MMI (non CarPlay) Also, no Spotify integration (you can play it, but no control)

I ended up fitting a phone holder on the dash and running a USB cable to charge.

Does the new (B9) MMI with CarPlay give you better integration? (Im running Galaxy Note 5)

:racer:

I have an iPhone 6 with a thin wireless charging case, was about £20 including qi charging pad. Works brilliantly, will fish out the link if anyone is interested. I haven't plugin my phone in for over a year
