Hi all, i bought a A5 2.ol tfsi petrol 2011 plate with 67k and one Dr owner today, full history etc, from my local car auction, as they pulled the car out to me i jumped in and before i got to the exit gate the oil pressure light came on, i drove it to the garage across the road as it was running on fumes, but as i turned it back on and drove it back the light wasnt on, i also then drove it 5 miles(not hard mind) and it still didnt come back on, then after a few hours i drove it another 8 miles, again not hard and again no light, could someone explain as to why it came on in the first place, also will i have to give it some stick driving it to see if it pops back on again ? or would it come back on if there was a problem no matter how i drove it ? i checked the oil level and according to the mmi its 3 quarters full so cant be low on that, thanks for any info.

I started the car this morning and the light came on again, it did it 3 times. But when the car warmed up it didn't do it at all, I blasted down the road reaching a high speed and took it up to 4000rpm but still no light. Now I'm thinking surely it can't be serious as it would of come on at that sort of speed. Could it be a blocked pick up pipe or just need a oil change ? The car is on 67k now and it was serviced last at 59k ?

It could be an issue with the oil pressure switch although that would be the best scenario I would have thought. A lot of 2.0 TFSI cars suffered with oil consumption issues, do you know if the car has had any work done ? . Does it have a full service history ?

If the car has had oil consumption issues and has been run low this may have caused issues.

Hi yea it has full history. It was owned from new by a doctor so would been looked after. I'm hoping it's either the switch or the pick up pipe in the sump. If it was something more serious surely the light would come on wether hot or cold and when I blasted it down the road. I did ring the garage where it was serviced but they said the owner never said anything about the light and there were never any problems with the car.

Quick update on this, my mechanic tested the oil pressure and said it was fine, so hes ordered two switches and will be coming tommorrow so ill let you know the outcome,

Here's hoping that is all it is!

If it's still on, try getting it scanned with VCDS to see if you can get any more information on the fault.

sorry for the delay on this, it turned out to be a blocked pick up pipe, but got rid of the thing as it turned out it also had the dreaded bad rings, it was drinking oil.
