My 2013 A6 Black Edition developed an annoying grating noise on turning the wheel this week. It sounded a bit like someone had put an air freshener around the steering wheel and it string had got wrapped up inside.

After turning out of a parking space today, I felt something grip the wheel and then 'snap'. Seconds later I realised none of the MFSW controls including paddle shifters are working.

Unimpressed that Audi want £60 to 'look at it' even though it will be with them for an emissions recall in a week - so much for goodwill.

Is there any known issues?

Slip ring broken, surely given age it would be covered tbh, I would press this point tbh.

Thanks @NHN - Squib ring was replaced.

Audi UK wouldn't consider goodwill until I'd paid for 2 hours labour and diagnostic.

Car went in for emissions recall and came out with a quote of £450-£650 to fix depending on what exactly was required once stripped down. Long story short, dealer offered goodwill to cover it (not a dealer I'd used before) and I just paid £200 labour.

Fairly happy with that outcome.
