Hi All

What solutions do dog owners use for their pups? Being a soon to be new owner, I don't really want the seats getting ruined. Was thinking about getting a cover for the rear seats and then clipping her harness into the seatbelt unit. Cage isn't really do-able in a saloon.

Anyone got any fancy solutions that don't look a bit naff?

Atm mine hasnt popped the dog walking cherry because i usually take the van!

Dad used to have a plastic crate you can get that fill up half the boot it has a door on it aswell so the dog cant jump down right away scoring the tailgate! Cant remember the name of it but they are custom made to fit a car.... worked a treat for our small dogs but for the retriever we needed a trailer

Thanks mate. Problem is its a saloon. So I guess a crate would work in the boot if the seats were down, otherwise it's probably bordering on animal cruelty

Depends on the size of dog tbh! His was a Passat but there was plenty of room in it for a mini schnauzer

Lewmcc - so you'd shut the dog in the boot of a saloon!? It would be pitch black and pretty claustrophobic no?

Jemichae - yeah I've been looking at a similar option to be honest. My dog isn't big she's a French bulldog. Less than 10kg. Some on Amazon look like they have good reviews. I'd prefer it was pretty stealth. Good.job.rear windows are tinted :)

My dog hammock now attaches to the fronts as well which looks pretty naff.

Mine always seemed more comfortable there than rolling around the cabin! Fall asleep during the drive

Far safer for all involved imho #furrycannonballs

Are you definitely talking about a saloon here? For sure in a hatchback with parcel shelf removed...But a saloon? Crikey. If someone shut me in the boot of a saloon I'd flip out. Poor dog

Never had a look at the A3 saloon boot but in the Passat we could fit a person in it

Ours (Scottie) quite happily sits / lies on the back seat of the saloon.
He has a harness which clips into the seat belt slot.
You get covers from pet stores which fix round the head rests and have slots to get to the seat belt slot.
We're lucky ours is a great traveller and simply lies down once we're on the move.
I've seen some people with saloons with a crate type thing in the boot and a mesh door facing into the cabin with back seat folded down but they're more like coffins with a mesh door imho and not very dog friendly.

I agree mate. I'm thinking your option is the most comfortable for the dog. My dog is a calm traveller as well so we should be all good strapping her in there. Think this sounds like the safe option

My S5 had the lunar seats and I was worried that the dog cover we had was a bit harder wearing and would mark the light coloured leather.
My mum made a fleece cover / b;anket, added straps for attaching to headrests, formed a slot for the seat belt and now my dog travels in luxury lol
Spoilt pooch!

I bought a 14yr old Fiesta Ghia for dog hauling duties & I don't need to do any extreme parking when I use that either lol!

Im sure a dog will survive a journey in a black boot, they just curl up and go to sleep since its nice and dark, plus in there it is keeping everything nice and clean. I couldn't think of anything worse than my soaking wet dog deciding to shake itself in my pride and joy. especially a frenchie, the back of a saloon boot will be massive for one of them little guys.

This thread was always going to degenerate into dog photos.... :)

This is why I'm going the Audi back seat cover / cocoon option...
