I've recently got a facelift S3 with the Bang & Olufsen sound system.

A friend of mine mentioned his car (same model + sound system) occasionally resets his sound settings (treble/bass/focus/surround etc) back to default. I've noticed mine has done it twice so far as I've only had the car a few days!

Is this something others have encountered? Should I raise it with the dealer?

Same here on the B&O - should be having the audi beam lights fitted by dealer in the next couple of weeks and was going to mention this as well. The instrument dial lighting flickers every now and then as well so not sure if its all related?

Does each sound source, like DAB radio, USB, SD card not have its own settings? Are the settings definitely resetting or are you switching between different sources...?

Also, do the settings follow each car key? Are you always using the same key...?

Thanks Gordo - I'm always using the same key and sound source (Absolute 80's on DAB most of the time!), its as if the MMI is resetting certain bits at random...some of the sat-nav options are doing the same, its a strange one

MMI Standard / Low or MMI Techpack / High?

I have the Techpack / High with B&O and have not experienced any issues as yet. Might be a MMI Standard / Low issue?

I don't have any tech pack, literally standard S3 + B&O system as far as the electronics go.

I've made sure it's definitely the entertainment sound settings each time and they're definitely reset. The reason I thought to check was because my music wasn't sounding quite right and when I checked the settings were back to default.

I phoned the dealer to report it as an issue, they've asked me to bring the car in so they can do a diagnostic.

If your friend has the non techpack then am betting this is a firmware issue with the standard MMI units. A re-flash or update, if available, should resolve.

I think you're right, his car is the same as mine. Probably just a software bug that needs fixed and a subsequent firmware update.

Same here, no tech pack. Will let them have a look at it when it goes in

Having the same issue, haven't changed any of the bass or treble settings but noticed the surrond sound is resetting, get my puddle lights fitted on Thursday.

My B&O still resets quite regularly. I usually use SD as source and it sometimes resets on starting the car without changing anything. Not something worth the hassle of taking the car in for but hopefully Audi will have identified the problem by the time the car goes in for service.
As far as the instrument cluster lights go, mine go up and down a bit at dusk and I assume its some auto dimming feature kicking in.

My friend mentioned the volume setting for the reverse parking sensors resets too, I'll have to double check that one myself

Is there not a default setting somewhere you can change, I know VW have had for years - my stereo always starts on volume 8 after the car has been turned off but it can be adjusted.

Has anyone ever raised this with Audi before?

Started happening to me also. Please let us know if you get anything from the dealer!

The dealer phoned me today, said they didn't need me to come in after all as they've checked with Audi UK and they're aware of the issue and are working on a fix.

The dealer said that they've registered the issue against my chassis number and once the updated software is available they will call to arrange installation.

He did say that there's no current estimate, it could be weeks or months.

Edit: Forgot to say that I would of course update this thread as soon as the fix is available so you guys can arrange to have it installed

Thanks mate, more than I got out of them tonight, said it was the first they'd heard of it and would look into it.

Classic Audi line, I got taught to never admit anything was a common problem. Always the first time we've heard of it.

I had a similar issue with resetting of things but mine was the trip counter randomly reset itself and also the temp gauge, one day during August 20 degrees outside temp gauge read 1 degree.

I told Audi and they got it in, but at the end of the day they said it was a known software fault with no fix as yet.

Subsequently got a phone call the other day saying they had a software update and wanted the car in to install but could not tell me whether or not it was for the previous reported fault so will have to wait and see.

On another note my driver information system keeps starting on the real-time consumption gauge (which is quite depressing) I want it to start on the digital speed but for the life of me I cannot find out how you set the speed as the default start. Anyone know or have any ideas?

Mines doing this also, any news on a fix?

Happened twice this week!

Mine does it too. I normally tell when the bass seems a bit weak. Very annoying. Glad people are on the case and hopefully it will be a fairly simple software update in the future. :)

Mine going in soon for a B and O problem - I've noticed that on certain occasions I can't alter the 'surround' setting, turning it max to min has no effect, and when it is working this has a huge effect on the sound. Which I'm guessing will explain why it sounds poor sometimes because the settings are all over. Full shut down and restart usually solves it. Strange one like, not sure how they're gonna sus this one.

Sent a query over to my local dealership today, shall see what comes back. Seems a few are having the issue. Am I right in thinking that it seems to be effecting those with B&O without the tech pack?

I was told by my salesman that this was a known issue and that my sound settings would reset themselves often when I bought the car back in November!

Happened to me too but only once so far. Not sure what to cause is.

Just got a response from my dealership which confirms what others have said.

It's a known issue which the dealer network are waiting for a software update to correct. They have warned that is could take upto 6 months to be deployed and rolled out to customers. No word on how the update will be applied i.e. Will we have to go and have it installed at a dealership or is it DIY?

Mine does exactly the same. Not just the various sound settings for the B&O, but also settings for sound fading during parking sensing, settings for reverse beeps, settings for sat nav voice during phone calls etc. It's driving me mad. I've noticed it resets all sound settings if you insert a new media source (which I suppose might be rational), but even whenthe source doesn't change, the sound settings do.

I kept having the telephone volume reset too which was incredibly frustrating.

I would keep thinking that my phone wasn't connected as I couldn't hear the person on the other end of the phone, but it was just the volume was right down.

Touch wood it hasn't reset for quite a while now!

I also did notice that radio/media have separate settings for sound, which made me wonder if that was confusing some people... but you guys are clearly on it!!

I don't think I have the energy to chase my dealer with this one, so will just see what happens when it goes in for service.

Anyone had any update on this? I'm currently taking it up with my dealer.

I was in recently for something else and mentioned it to the dealer and it's still an outstanding issue apparently.

How hard can it be?

I too mentioned this today to my dealer and they've asked me to bring the car in for diagnosis! I even referenced this forum but still they're supposedly aren't even aware of the problem.

Hi, just found these forums. Bought an Audi A3 with the B&O system, and I'm having the same problem. The settings reset at best every few days, sometimes a couple of times in one day. Has anyone had any luck getting a solution?

My car went in to Audi last week for its first service (16,000) miles. I complained about the MMI forgetting the various settings regularly, but they didn't seem that interested. They advised that there is no updated MMI software available, and that I could leave it with them for a day 'to perform diagnostic checks', but if there are no faults indicated, then they'd likely not learn much. My MMI has crashed completely a couple of times (with either blank display or the blue screen of death). The screen doesn't retract even after switching off the ignition and locking the doors. Eventually it folds back in and appears to have reset by the next morning. I love the car, it's my 3rd A3, but this MMI is driving me crazy.

My husband has the S3 with the B&O sound system and is having all of the same issues you have all been discussing. I have been discussing the issue with Audi uk customer services but they fobbed me off stating Germany were aware of the issue and are awaiting feedback and there is nothing more they can do for me. Trying to get the TPI number from them or even getting them to admit how long this has been a known issue for has proved impossible. I was told to deal with the dealership I purchased the car from. I went in today after work and discussed the issue with the service manager. He stated there isn't a fix just now and they have no idea when it will be available. He explained if there are 5 Audi customers with the same fault in their vehicles then a meeting is held in Germany whereby they try and find a fix. He struggled to get Audi UK to admit there was a TPI in the system for this issue and had to provide comprehensive information to them on what happens. They finally agreed on the TPI. The service manager is going to escalate the issue within Audi uk and send an email to the business director as he is sure he won't know about this. I've asked for specifics and told him my expectations. Simply being told this is being worked on is not acceptable. This is our 6th Audi and second one in the "S" family. It's very frustrating to know dealerships are still selling the cars with the known issue and do not seem bothered about letting the buyer know, but then why would they.
