What car/cars does this pertain to?

The boot failed on my A4 avant in July and Audi UK took the car back. I've been in an A6 since while I wait for a new factory ordered replacement of the same spec to arrive. I am collecting it on Tues. I suspect the recall pertains to the issue I had if this is for the Avant.

Bit of info on what happened. There was a bang like a gun shot when closing the boot, the boot became misaligned but kept closing, dented the roof and every panel around it including the boot spoiler. Not good times.

Apparently it's rare for Audi UK to take the car back, usual the dealer have to repair on re-sell rejected cars. They said it was a safety issue and some technical investigators were called in from Audi UK and possibly Audi AG.

I accepted a replacement as I am hopeful this is a one off issue that is so rare, I am unlikely to encounter it again. Service has been very good.

Ouch, that's very bad. Don't suppose you took any photos?

I have some that show misaligned panels, nothing worth posting TBH.

I have a build due to start Oct 3rd,i would presume all of the above would be updated for future builds?

My car was built in January, but haven't heard anything yet from Audi or the dealer!?

Would someone who has had the software update done mind taking a photo of their MMI display showing the version number please? I bought a second hand Avant a week ago and I was told that the software had been updated but I'm not convinced.

Mine was built in September and I have just had the recall request. I got my A4 from Coventry Audi.

Does this campaign pertain to both Petrol and Diesel?

Looking at what it is being recalled for, I would have thought so yes.

Actually the recall was sent about my original A4 which was manufactured in May!

My MY 2016 A4 Avant S Line 2.0TDI 190 is going into Audi Bristol tomorrow for this update. I havnt received an notification from audi but I read about the update on here so I rang and booked it in. It's a lease car so the recall notification might have gone to Arval.

The lady on the phone said I can wait as it's only a software update and will take an hour, so I assume the physical hardware mods mentioned previously in this thread will not be done. My question is should they be done?

I took the car in a few months back for the flickering MMI screen and the faulty ambient display temp but I got told they were waiting on a software update, I hope the 45E3 update cures these issues.

Anyone managed to get radio station logos to show? Mine have never worked. Does this update maybe fix the logos? Here's hoping.

I'll feedback after I've had the update with any differences I can find.

I look forward to hearing your feedback from this. Mine is also MY16 but had no correspondence re an update. I've never had Station logos either, I periodically have the temperature gauge fault and the occasional unresponsive CarPlay/MMI issues.

We have a 2016MY B9 and had the 45E3 software update in November, no notification from Audi - I just went into dealership mentioned the issues (temp gauge, clock losing time, very occasional flickering of MMI etc) they checked from registration and chassis numbers, booked it in and had it completed (along with an unrelated heated rear screen issue).

Can confirm that since then the clock will stay on the GPS setting and update itself, so no loss of time, temperature gauge is also working properly now - however we still have no Radio station logos, not a big thing for me at all to be honest as if listening to radio I tend to switch off the MMI anyway. Our CaPlay was working fine before and still is.

I'm in the audi garage now, turns out it seems it's not just software update but also the rear axle stone deflector and chaffing protection for rear lid, although I wonder if this relevant on my Avant. I've got the entire update workshop procedure printed out, step by step with pictures.

Yes there is more than just software update, but as you say not all of the things relate to all cars.

Ours is an Avant and we had some kind of bootlid adjustment, not exactly sure what, no mention of stone guards being done on our print out on collecting - so aside from software and boot nothing else was applicable to ours it seems.

For ref ours was a late Jan 2016 order and was delivered early May 2016.

Hopefully these pics are useful to someone.

The work took over 2 hours but that included a vacuum and clean.

Not had chance to really go through the 45E3 procedure until now, just wanted to get it posted so you guys can see for info.

Looking at these service procedures, judging by the pictures the boot mod does apply to the Avant.

Plus, I assume it should be easy to visually check if your car has had the stone deflectors fitted to the right and left rear axle lower transverse links.

I've just driven the car for the second time and it has not kept the automatic time function!

I can't tell anything different yet. The temperature gauge issue used to happen when the temperature was warm and it would read cold. But it currently is cold.

I'm doubting if the software part related to MMI/Instrument Cluster has even been applied.

When I collected the car from the garage all of my settings within the MMI were unchanged, radio stations unchanged, short and long term memories unaffected and still reading the correct mileages.

Should all or any of these things go been reset with a software update?

I'm panicking that parts of the update have not been completed. Sigh.

Hmmm, ours ended up staying overnight at Leeds Audi when they did it as they couldn't fix a non functional heated rear window (not related to 45E3), so I've no idea how long the 45E3 campaign actually took.

Our clock has stayed ever since on the auto time update, temp gauge is now fine also, if I remember correctly our long and short term memories on DIS had gone too. I had my doubts as to what they had done, as the software revision and version stayed the same, however the faults have gone and (touch wood) 6weeks later not returned - so I can't really complain.

If I can locate the sheet detailing what they did I'll upload it so you can compare.

Thanks.

Do you always have the satellite dish symbol on the time and date page in the DIS? Mine disappears for every new journey after setting the auto time.

Yet the auto time update option is still ticked in the MMI settings.

I remebr from a loan A4 I had for a week that the satellite symbol was always present.

Prior to having the update ours did the same (set to auto and the symbol was there - next time you got in the car after switching off ignition it had gone again).

It's now been there ever since the update was completed in November - haven't found our sheet from Audi yet showing work they did, think it must be in my office so will be tomorrow now when I'm back in.

On the "MyAudi" site and under the service tab it will state what work has been completed.
MyAudi shows 2 x campaigns being completed on mine prior to purchase - Repair record 96d5 and 96d7 campaigns completed -

Checked that but only shows pre-delivery inspection carried out by dealer (Sheffield Audi) - I suspect it will be updated with proper digital service record at the cars first service, seems Leeds Audi didn't update with the 45E3 campaign update.

I did find the sheet from them we got on collecting the car after the update though, scan attached, no mention of rear axle stoneguard or anything else being completed and I was with the service manager when he checked our chassis and reg no for what was applicable, so can only assume they aren't needed on ours.

Scan

Thanks for looking.

Is there any other signs i can look for that an update has been done?

Did I imagine it or did someone say that the passenger airbag warning message and chime on startup is suppressed now?

Interested to see some people with cars manufactured in 2016 have had remedial work done when they aren't in the recall bracket!

An update......

I rang Bristol Audi service department yesterday. They went and checked details of the work performed during the 45E3 service campaign visit.

I was told that apparently each car is different and only needs certain parts of the 45E3 updates performed, the only part of the update my car required was and I quote "the update to the traction control"

No idea what that means, nothing close to traction control is listed as part of the 45E3 update package.

So now I'm even more confused and no closer to getting a fix for the issues on my car, flickering mmi screen, clock auto time and misreading temp gauge.

The tech I spoke to had no knowledge of theses isuues. Yet when I took the car in a few months ago I was assured they were known issues and they were awaiting software updates. Now he claims there are no other updates pnding for my car.

Yet I know that people on here he had the issues I'm suffering resolved by a software update.

No idea what to do next except stop buying **** Audi cars in future!

Hmmm, can understand your frustration, as detailed earlier in this thread we had the temp gauge reading incorrectly, time refusing to set via GPS (so losing 1-2mins a week) and the occasional flickering MMI.

All those were cured by having the 45E3 software update, additionally we had the boot lid reset but nothing else within the campaign - I do believe as stated some cars need certain parts of the campaign only - however, like you, I went in originally and told them about our issues with temp / clock / to a much lesser degree flickering MMI and I mentioned the software update, which they checked and then completed a few weeks later.

I'm happy to supply you an un-blurred out copy of the warranty invoice if you want to show that to your dealer, but you shouldn't really have to, however dealer experiences varies greatly as ever.

If they are insistent that no other part of the campaign applies, then I'd say fair enough but then asking them to cure the temp / clock / flickering issues you have in whatever way they can, under warranty and promptly too.

I have had my car in for the MMI issue and temp gauge issue. As others have stated the temp gauge was sorted by an update.
As for the MMI the Audi Tech found a connection under the drivers seat that had not been connected correctly causing the MMI issue. Since the fix it has been behaving itself.
