Where's my battery - need dashcam feed...

Hi guys 'n gals,

I have a Blackview front/rear camera setup, as per instructions, it has an always on feed, and a switched feed. More often than not, it turns off when I leave it, or open the door/s.

Support from the retailer says it's incorrectly wired, (despite the user guide), as it needs a direct to battery terminal feed, so, where is my battery situated, I have a 2013/14 A4 B8.5. Currently it is fed from the fuse panel on the side of the dash.

It's in the boot under your spare wheel.

I'd just take a permanent feed from one side of the dash fuses and a switched feed from the other.

I did feva,

Even got an auto electrician to confirm the fuse slots, but the permanent feed one isn't permanent enough, and I'm advised to run direct from the battery

OK, well if you're going to run a power cable to the boot to get a good permanent feed then you could kill 2 birds with one stone and get your ignition feed from the 12v socket on the right hand side of the boot. Also, there is a few options for fused power points back there so check to see if any of them are 12v constant.

That's just unimaginative advice. Just because the wrong fuse connection was chosen doesn't mean it is necessary to run a wire directly to the battery. All you need to do is use a fuse connection which is permanent. As the saying goes - its not rocket science.

I had an auto electrician identify the right fuses, it's just annoying that it keeps turning off, it monitors the voltage through the power magic pro, all set up as per manual, I'll look to identify another permanent slot first then.

Can you let us know exactly which fuses are wired into?
Are you sure that its not powering down because the PMP is detecting the set battery voltage threshold? What is it set to?
When the doors are open and so the various lights are on, the battery voltage can easily dip to around 12V. Ideally the dashcam should not enter parking mode for a short delay to allow time for the voltage to settle after the doors are closed and the lights are off. Also ideally the dashcam should not shut off immediately the threshold is detected, to allow for short dips such as when you need to return to the car to place a parking ticket on the dash for example. I'm not familiar with the Blackview/PMP so I can't comment on if it should tolerate these circumstances.
