Hello All,
Apologies for posting an insurance post when there it dedicated boards but I'm looking for your recommendations or advice.

I currently have an A3 which, as a second car, has an insurance premium of £556 and does less than 4k miles per year I thought this was rather ££; the family car is a MY65 Ford SMax Titanium Sport 240ps, £340/year.

I've decided to move from the A3 (1.8 TFSI) to the S3. I'm 40 years old, 15 years + NCB, no points yet I can't find insurance anywhere for less than £1200/y. I expect the S3 to be more expensive but wasn't expecting this.

Is this the general experience you have with the S3?

I'm looking to speak to some of the specialists providers from the Forum but they are closed for the festive period.

Any help, advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Sam

Compare the market

Then try directly with admiral and adrian flux. Thats how I got my cheapist price

Thanks for the responses so far - the SMax is with Admiral, the A3 is with Churchill....

If it's modified....Greenlight.

Im a bit older but they're insuring a 550bhp+ car for around £600.

I'm with quote me happy mine was about £550 (I'm 30 years old with 11 PNCB and an unsettled claim in the last year).

Thanks for the feedback all - Quote Me Happy came back at £525.07 - the best so far. I'll give a couple of the specialists a call on Tuesday.

I'm and older less sensible geezer and had my S4 (as a 2nd. car) insurance for £340 with A Plan, they are specialists in kit car, classics and performance motors. Now have all cars with them and the house insurance.
Limited mileage policies help knock down the price.
If you leave a car out on the road, or live in a dodgy area you are always going to be in the high risk group.
Don't have a small excess such as £100, you're not going to claim for such small damages in reality are you.
Paying for 'Legal & Expenses' is not always necessary, you may well already have this covered by your house insurance, bank account, your professional institution or in my case, my trade union.

Give them a call at the Thatcham branch. https://www.aplan.co.uk/motoring/high-performance-car-insurance

Just reinsured my heavily modified S3 for £385 - Adrian Flux. I'm 28, 8 years NCB and 1 fault accident.

Elephant were the best for my s3 £470 a year. I'm 29 and 6 years. No claims

It really does depend on your postcode.
I have a perfect history, 49yrs old with full pncb going back as long as they will accept and I pay £700 with all mods declared, but then I live in Bradford.
When I got the S3 I had to have a tracker fitted and LV were one of the few to insure me and are fairly good with mods.
It really does p!ss me off when I have to pay double what others half my age pay just because I live in my home town!

Thanks All, APlan (@SootySport) called me this morning, £440, which is cheaper than I'm paying for the A3. Thats the best so far so I'm comfortable I'll get a decent plan.

Thanks again,
Sam

At least you have some very good Indian restaurants, the Karachi was my favourite.

im 39 years old and pay £550 per year on a 2011 S3 with unlimited modifications included (2 drivers)

this policy was arranged with LV insurance via Keith Michaels in London area 0208 number

i consider this a bargain considering i have a TT99 August 2015 which resulted in a 6 month ban

Hi,
Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like. If you wanted to PM me some contact details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back when we're back in the office on Tuesday.
