Hi guys,

Recently acquired myself a 1.9 B6 A4 and have an issue with braking. I'm not new to VAG cars having owned a MK4 Golf for the past 5 years.

Problem seems to be that the brake pedal sometimes keep going down when used in low speed situations. If slowly moving in traffic, with my foot lightly on the brake, the pedal will travel and travel until almost at the floor with little to no braking effort, until its nearly on the floor. Other braking seems and feels fine at higher speeds.

I have checked the lines and there are no leaks, have replaced the rear discs and pads today and bled all calipers to ensure no air & fresh fluid within. With the engine off, the pedal holds pressure with leads me to think the Master Cylinder is not at fault.

I have read on other forums that other types of VAG cars have had similar issues and that these were caused by bad/leaking vacuum to the servo. My servo line does not appear to be leaking however someone has bodged it onto the tandem pump in the past so there could be a leak there.

So really me question is, would poor vacuum really cause a soft/sinking pedal? As bad servo assist to me would make the pedal harder, not softer.

Thanks for any help.
Lozzy.

Just an update to this in-case anyone else has this problem, replaced the tandem pump a few days ago and the problem is fixed, brakes feel much better and the pedal does not sink anymore. Seems it must have had a fair vacuum leak.
