It was my first long drive today so got to set up the sat nav and noticed a few funny street names / stupid directions such as wanting me to come off the motorway, go around the roundabout then back on to the motorway or come off the main road, go up a single track side road then back on to the main road.

Managed to catch two of them, attached.

Has anyone else seen anything funny with the satnav?

P.S. there is a Nob Hill near me, always creases me up hearing the satnav saying it aloud.

Ive had sat navs in the past on my phone that have suggested doing that when there is loads of traffic on the motorway. I reckon it probably shaves 5/10 mins off your journey as you skip a fair chunk of the queue at the junction doing that

Was it just today? I did a 4 hour journey today that I also did in July. In July the satnav was great but tonight on the way home it started doing the route off, round the roundabout and back trick.

But the queues are probably being caused by drivers trying to get back on from the other sides, the satnavs have all got together and are taking the pxss. When's judgement day due?

Was the navigation trying to direct you to a Butthole Lane?!! (Virtual cockpit pic) I think for comedy value I would let Audi off that one!

I have hardly driven anywhere since getting the car so not really used the satnav on a journey, but in today's 45mile trip it tries to take me a few suspect routes.

I just noticed Butthole Lane as I was driving down the M1, you can't not find that funny.

Yeah the sat nav in this new A4 is pants. Mine keeps telling me to turn left but the map on the screen clearly shows a right turn. This also happens the other way around.
I find it very time consuming to enter the destination so I usually just use my phone as it's 10 times quicker and also seems to pick a much better route.

I seem to remember something about using the centre of the MMI dial to write letters by hand and have the car recognise your handwriting. Tried that a few times and it doesn't work at all in my car.

Really? That's pathetic. Everything seems to be an optional extra on this car - the standard spec is very basic.

Compared to a kia maybe, but then that's how they get you to buy the cars. I wouldn't say that the spec of an A4 is basic though...

I have the standard MMI on mine and haven't had any issues with the routes. In fact it has saved me from being stuck in heavy traffic a couple of times. The first time it did it, I thought I knew better and ignored it, going the route I would have normally taken only to get caught up in a huge traffic jam which I would have avoided had I followed the SatNav instructions (I'm sure I could hear in the background the SatNav lady laughing at me!). Since then I have resisted the temptation to over-ride it and each time found that it has taken me on a much better route when there has been heavy traffic or an accident on what would have been my chosen route.

That said, I do find the input of destinations more laborious than in my old B8, or it could be that I'm just doing it wrong and should maybe read the manual.

+1 for ignoring the satnav and then end up in a massive traffic jam.

The only problem I have with it, is the routes, it wants to take you the most direct route possible and its put me on some stupidly thin country / almost dirt track roads on more than 1 occasion when I'd much rather take the "main road". But to its credit, I've always got to my destination.

Does the Google Maps option in the tech pack use Googles Route Planning or is the map purely an overlay on the standard nav system.

Whenever I'm on holiday in my Seat Leon the built in sat nav is constantly trying to take me on single track country roads because they are 'national speed limit' rather than the 40mph main road that usually runs parallel! So infuriating as if you try and ignore it it'll start gabbling on "turn left", "take the next left", "do a uturn and in 100 yards turn right"

I wondered this so ran both at the same time, it uses Google for traffic and will re-route based on that but doesn't use google for the routing. Google and the car gave me different routes.

Thanks, that's a shame, hopefully the more modern sat nav will be better than my current one!

I've ignored the traffic suggestions since I enabled the setting and every time I've ended up at work over 10 minutes earlier than the initial eta

Well, I'm not convinced of the routing either.
Specifically from today's experience, if you're planning on driving from Peterborough to Sleaford I'd recommend buying a map!

I can help you with that...A15 all the way.

Mine has tried to take to completely the wrong place on numerous occasions! Resulting in me having to use my phone for directions! ****** annoying when you have forked out as much for the tech pack like me!
