Hi Guys,

Need your help please.

I am looking to buy an A6 2.7 TDI Le mans 2008.

I am not familiar with the 2.7 engine or the A6. but have had A4's in the past.

what do i need to look out for?

Any common issues / Faults?

V6 should be pretty solid, I had no real issues that weren't wear and tear related on my C6

check for stone chipping to the sills behind the front wheels, mine was rusting slightly there

Yes. Get 3.0 tdi quattro s line le mans

2006 Audi A6 3.0TDI quattro sline le mans | Daytona Grey Pearl

2.7 is same size and weight dimensions then 3.0 but with less power.... whats the point...

Slightly better fuel consumption and cheaper tax.
Depends on what you need from your car I suppose.

If the criteria are cheap and economy then 2.0tdi is the answer

I have the 2.0TDI engine and paid £190 tax.
Economy? I do around 420-440 miles per tank, city driving. God knows how does that work out in mpg as never counted it.
Always 0.0 the clock with new full tank and never top up fuel.
Is that good mpg?

Fuel consumption for the 2.7 and 2.0 TDI (170BHP) are about the same. I checked before I went for the 2.7.
In favour of the V6 you have no timing belt to worry about and no issues with the oil pump drive. Injector issues on the earlier V6s were sorted by the time the facelift was done.

Plus you get the V6 sound :sunglasses:

You do have chain issues, they don't last forever. There are plenty of V6 TDi engines that have had either the tensioners changed or both chain & tensioners.

I bit the bullet and went for the 2.7 TDI V6. so far i'm very impressed with the comfort and drive.
MPG seems a little low but i'm hoping that improves after i give it a service.

The engine management light came on before i collected it and the dealer had it cleared saying it's something to do with the heating as it stays on for about 30seconds once you switch off the engine.

any ideas as to what is keeping the fans on?

i'm hoping to scan the car myself once i get the software sorted. ordered Carista OBD2 diagnostic as my Vagcom (cheap ebay cable) is old and won't scan my car.

Congratulations:sign wow:

I wouldn't buy it if it had any kind of issue. Unless you have the warranty.

Get it checked properly to avoid any future problems.

It could be something to do with the thermostat or cooling system?
Can you hear when fans are going on?
Can you observe circumstances or is it every time you drive?

it's just every time i drive. even when the ignition is just left on without being started they kick in.

Yep, better get it checked up and scanned properly, mate.

Dealer is pulling a fast just clearing the fault code and letting you take the car away, get the car checked independent garage. My guess is either a faulty temp sender or one of the fan modules is faulty, then get the dealer you got the car from to fix it at their expense.
