Hi Guys,

Just wondering who out there has been unable to resist the temptation and has launched their new S3 already? :p

I told myself no, I will wait a good few thousand miles as it's only a show off factor. Yesterday, 1000 miles.. I did two. After the first, I just had to go again!

I had the Mrs' record the second one, the time is around 4.4-4.5s to 60! With less than a quarter tank of fuel...

It's pretty cool. Lacks the "oh s***" factor you get in the RS3, but the initial 30mph is very fast.

Now I have to try and continue not to use it, damn.. I know it's pre-installed and all.. but an instant shock of 305hp through that gearbox, can't be at all nice for it :sadlike::tearsofjoy:

Regards,

Matthew

LoL it is great fun - just done it the once for the sake of the power train as you say.

Much prefer to get rolling first letting the car beside me get in front half a length and then just squeezing the throttle and powering past haha.

I'm on 5800 odd miles in (1 year of ownership on the 21st of this month) and haven't tried LC yet....:scared2:

It is good. I do admit to having not launched, but it's been in launch mode quite a few times., sounds awesome bouncing off that limiter ;)

Times when I regret having such mechanical sympathy ;)

Currently trying to upload the video, photo bucket is c*** at the moment.

When I had the PFL on loan, I tried and it didn't have launch control? :(

Had to log onto my computer just to get this copy link to work :rage:

I noticed the gear changes were totally different. Gearbox obviously in sport, there was a obvious pause between changes, hard to explain until you have been in the car yourself. It must be the gearbox making the changes harsher, definitely totally different to normal changes.

Must have been a manual ??

It was an S Tronic, I can remember trying once and failed. But I have also failed to get it to work in mine too. Maybe I did something wrong, I haven't been told whether it has or hasn't got it.

You know what this calls for? You got an hour to go try it, report back ;)

My S5 is over 30,000 miles and 2.5 years old and haven't used it - criminal I know.
Should really try it before it goes on Thursday eh!

If not I should be banned from owning Audi's and made to drive a Dacia Duster for a year!
Trust me I've had a few 'spirited' manual launches and drives so it's not like I'm driving miss daisy ha ha.

You have no choice but to try it now, we all have to know whether it has it ;) Great fun!
I have just remembered the car is going in for some warranty work on the 15th.. Hydraulic pump for the haldex so will have to wait till it's been done..As it stands at the moment it wheelspins in most of the gears when putting foot down...grrrr

Yes, I can confirm that we will all here punish you as such ;)

Go try it, take the Mrs' to record it and report back ;)

Damn, you've bought yourself a little time ;)

Hm, sounds like something mine thinks it's doing with the TC kicking in ALL the time. If I ever want to drive with any speed behind me, the TC has to go into Sport, really irritating when you consider it's a Quattro...

That's exactly the issue with mine..I mentioned it to the service desk when it had it's first service and they said they will put in an uprated pump. They said it's the newer pump that's in the face lift A3's... Will have to wait and see if it fixes it..:friends:

Hm, mine doesn't suffer from any wheel spin but the TC kicking in is constant. If I go anywhere near the throttle on say a slip road it totally cuts power. 2nd & 3rd gear, as the turbo builds.. stops you from driving it quickly at all.

Mine is similar, what tyres did you get on yours?
It's nearly like it is waiting for the Haldex Pump to build up pressure, however if I switch off the TC, no issues, no wheelspin and the car just takes off.

Does any one know or noticed that when you do a launch that there is no farts anyone know why this is ?

I got Conti Sport 5's, I have the 19" wing arm alloys. I don't rate the Conti's at all, very noisy on my previous A3. I changed to Bridgestone, much quieter. I would like to change to Michelin PSS, but at £220 I can justify it for my driving. Instead, when I change it will likely be for the Pirelli P Zero's that are on the RS3, the stretched tyres look awesome. They are £120 a tyre :)

I will definitely ask Audi about it, I never saw the TC light on the PFL S3 when on test. Mine does it, all the time.. :( Same here, TC off and I get absolutely no wheelspin or instability. The system is kicking in for some reason, but I can't feel any issues through the car. I don't doubt that it is the Quattro system at fault, I suspect changed parameters in the TC settings.

Yep, the RS3 is the same. It's like the car is concentrating on going quickly, rather than making it sound good.

The farts and crackles on both are engineered, so rather than the ECU spending time making it sound good I believe it is to potentially speed up the changes / make them more efficient.

Still really intrigued to see what the 0-60 time is without LC... Is the data out there and I've just not seen it?

It's supposed to be 4.6. It was really difficult to see where the car started to move on the video, but I clicked 4.4, no more than 4.5.

I am interested what the result will be for bhp on the dyno. I'm not sure when to put it on, whether to wait till a few thousand miles or put it on now. The salesman told me it will come alive after 3000.

I will be disappointed if it pulls less than it should, so hopefully there will be a good result.

The RS3 is fab on launch, it took me surprise while I had it on loan. Had been in one on a launch 3 times previous to that, but I forgot just how quick they are.

Did my first LC the day I got it (couldn't resist), have just passed 1000 and done the second. Both were insane and I have no idea how fast I got.

It is addictive.

I could not have done the first day though.. haha! I took the first 300-400 miles relatively lightly, didn't go over 4000rpm for 300, except for 3/4 occasions.

Now I've done it, I want more.. haha!!

How do you do it in the S3, I tried the same method as my gold R but didn't work!

6 minutes and no RTFM :) I'm shocked. Turn off TC, stop start, HHA. Put in dynamic, hold brake for a second then full throttle. Should hold at 4k revs. When ready, foot off brake, smile :)

BTW, if you've got Stop/Start disabled with VCDS you don't need to push the button to turn off Start/Stop to use Launch Control.

I haven't done a LC yet and not sure if I will, mainly because I can never remember the procedure. If it were a single button press I might use it! Anyway, 4.4 is as expected but you had a passenger too? Nice :)

Other than that, I would be careful posting a vid that proves you were speeding. There have been a few tickets issued because of this... just sayin'
