Dome/Map Light issue

I just swapped over to the unit with ambient LEDs and map lights. Photo of both units below.
When fitting I plugged in the cable and there was a loud click and a very small flash in the middle of the new unit. It then blew my interior lighting fuse.

The ambient LEDs and the switch backlight work, but the map lights and main light dont. Any ideas?

I probably should have disconnected the battery but I wouldn't have thought it was required with this particular job. The ignition was off.

Not sure if it helps, but the main switch turns the rear light (above back seats) on/off. So the only things that don't function are the main front lights and the map lights.

No one has had this issue before? Or any ideas where to start? Should i take apart the light itself and look for damage?

Have you checked the bulbs?
If they are ok get a auto tester see if there is any power to the lights if no power
Check power at the connector

Yes have swapped out bulbs, no change. I might have to take apart the unit and see if there is any visual signs of damage to any components.

Have you tryed the old unit back into see if that works if it does then this one is faulty

Just to help anyone out that might google this in future.

Managed to sort this out. The plastic covering the circuitry had partially popped off in transit, which meant it wasn't connecting properly and continually blowing fuses. I clicked this back into place and also popped a slightly bigger fuse in.
