Hello all. I'm crazily about to embark on ripping out my 01J CVT gearbox to give it a refurb. I bought the car knowingly with a gearbox issue (which funnily enough wasn't the only issue), however I wasn't totally clued up about CVT gearboxes either. Having Googled the living death out of it, I'm more than happy (and have the equipment) to refurb said gearbox with confidence.

My problem is getting the damn thing off the engine! Being situated under the engine (covered by the sub frame) and running directly between two exhausts I have found access rather difficult. I have attempted to remove the gearbox in stages (rear ECU, followed by the hydraulic pack) however there's not enough room to move anything rearwards. I have now put it all back together so I can remove the damn thing in its entirity.

Has anyone been able to remove it from the engine without dropping the entire donk and box together?

P.S I have done several gearboxes before, so I'm far from being a novice, but I'm hoping someone has an idea of how to seperate them without dropping both chunks of metal.

where are you located ?
are you trying to do this with the aid of a ramp or off the floor ?

I'm in Oxfordshire (Wallingford) and believery it or not i'my attempting this on the driveway. No ramps. Crap weather so gave it a miss this weekend (and last). But does look like I'll have to lower the whole lump and gearbox as a one'r.
