Hi, a short while after purchasing my Avant I noticed that the DIS was stuck on one page so off I went to Audi to get it fixed (wrong code inputted when after market cruise control fitted apparently) and they noticed that my rear outer offside light and brake light was not working. They wouldn't touch it as it was not an Audi product. 2nd garage diagnosed the unit at fault. Whilst trying to source a replacement it started working again. Further investigation showed that it sometimes went very dim and sometimes was normal (no actions caused this). Today I went for a wheel alignment and as it was being driven in (auto lights came on) I noticed that the offside rear was now working but the n/s outer rear was not (scratches head). During the alignment process they wedge the brake on and the two lights would alternate between one or the other being on or both being on ( this was not a disco type effect but happened every now and again). My thoughts are either a bad earth somewhere, water ingress somewhere or the Module(?) that carries the codes that need to be inputted for the various extra functions perhaps, although I thought these LED units had that sorted. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

what lights have you got mate, i have a very similiar problem normally first thing in the morning auto lights come on and i get left brake light out then right brake light out. when I check them they both appear to be fine. problem is very intermittent....... and annoying. I've noticed since i've switched from auto lights to putting on manual it doesn't become a problem. sorry not really helpful but do share your pain

Hi B_FUR, cheers for the reply. The lights are K-Tun or something like that. I remembered the previous owner said that he had had trouble with the N/S outer but his garage sorted it for him. Aha thought I, that could be where the problem is and so today I removed the N/S outer and what a mistake that was. The Audi plug had been cut off and the light unit plug had been cut off and the two leads connected with terminal strip enclosed in an old plastic box similar to the type you buy screws in. F*@!" Gloom. Anyway after re-connecting (without the missing connectors) it now has the same fault as the O/S outer continuously. I shall give turning off the Auto lights a whirl as you suggest and see what happens but anyway I am going to have to source a proper Audi plug and I think a new set of lights will be on the cards, probably Li-Tech from Dectane if they ever have any stock in for Audi.
Cheers
Dave
