Hi guys,

I was wondering if you can help, we are about to buy a q3 sline and it says it has sat nav on the dash but when you click on the nav button it comes up with this

Does it need the DVD of the sat nav or does it need activating etc?

Many thanks

New or Used?

In general I believe that you will find all Q3's have the SatNav function - so will show on the MMI - HOWEVER - if it was not purchased when the vehicle was new, then it has no SD card and thus will not work - the message you see suggests that.

If New - I'm not sure if it is yet "standard" on the Q3, which would mean that the dealer hasn't activated it (or if it isn't standard and you are purchasing, then it would be as per "used".

But fear not - you can get it "retro-fitted" (as it already exists within the software on the vehicle), however you need an Audi dealer to activate the Sat Nav and supply the SD card - cost will be circa £500 I believe. So it may be something you might want to negotiate if you are purchasing the car.

Just to add - there is no DVD - basic Sat Nav runs off an SD card (you will see 2 x SD card slots below the MMI screen) or for the High Tech version is pre-loaded on the hard drive (it can't have that on this S-Line else it would already be active as the High version is factory fit only)

If you have lots of Q3 questions, try visiting www.Q3ownersclub.co.uk - bit more lively and active than the Q3 section here :)

Okey dokey that's great news, it's not a new one it's a 63 plate but we had a test drive and we look like we are buying it but I want to get the sat nav sorted so can't I get the card and activation not from Audi aka from someone on here or will it still be similar price etc?
Yeah I'll have a nose on there when I get 5 thank you.

Unfortunately not, only Audi can activate, it's one of those items they have totally sewn up so only they can do it. So you have no choice but to purchase the SD card from Audi and get the workshop to activate it. As I said, given you are purchasing the car - I assume from an Audi dealer? - I'd negotiate getting the SD card and activation as part of the deal. Good Luck!

Ahh I see typical Audi always finding ways to make sure you go back to them lol.
Yeah that's fine I'll see what I can do but we squeezed a fair bit out of them already but I'll push and see haha. Is there anything else you can just activate? Dab or anything like that?

There are a number of things that can be activated using VCDS if you have the cable and know the codes, even to fitting additional equipment yourself and then using VCDS to activate it. So for instance, iif you have folding mirrors you can use VCDS to get them to fold when you switch the ignition off/on (as standard they don't). Unfortunately though DAB isn't one of the options that you can switch on, again it was a factory fit option back in 2013, so unless it was spec' d as factory fit, you''d need a new radio unit. Sorry :(

Ahh I see that's ok no worries. I'll see what I can get activated then lol. I know it's got auto lights wipers half leather with heated seats, it hasn't got folding mirrors. Can you get the semi dynamic indicator lights for the back?

Many thanks James.

For folding mirrors James, you would actually need to get new mirrors and use VCDS to get them to fold, as the standard ones do not have the motors inside.
Regards the semi-dynamic indicators - not on the pre-Facelift models such as you are looking at to my knowledge, however is you look on www.q3ownersclub.co.uk there was a thread about retrofitting LED rear lights - whether these can be made to be dynamic or not I'm not sure - but I don't think so, the problem being that for dynamic to work there needs to be individual power to each LED, and on the pre-FL rear lights that isn't the case unfortunately. So in respect of that question I believe the answer is most probably no.

Haha that's ok no worries, well main thing is get the sat nav activated and it will all be pretty good tbf don't think there is much else they need really I would go for loads as for them they wouldn't use or need half of it haha. Thanks for the help tho
