There does appear to be a lot of debate as to wether the 220 bhp BUL engine as fitted to the DTM and Quattro special editions is any different to the 200bhp found in the other variants, many suggest the only thing that differs is the ecu mapping, but it would appear not .
it has been stated on many sites and info sources that the BUL engine is a much more tuneable engine compared to others, this maywell be in part down to the difference to be found with the BUL engines.
After a lot of searching I have found an official article that clearly states there are differences, so this may help clarify things a bit more.
Anyway , I've cut out the sections that are not really important but here is the main parts.

The Audi A4 DTM Edition is powered by the new 2.0 turbo FSI engine. The power of this direct injection engine with turbocharger was especially boosted for the new model from 200 to 220 bhp, and torque was increased from 280 to 300 Nm. This power unit sees quattro GmbH continuing the tradition of 4-cylinder turbo engines with increased power output. The 20 bhp increase in power output was achieved on the A4 DTM Edition by selective modifications such as new pistons, compression ratio, modified turbochargers and an appropriately adapted engine management system.

so they you go.....proof that not all 2.0tfsi engines are made the same

Yup read about the compression ratio before.
Thats what makes me wonder when lots of engine recon places insist that they have BUL's reconditioned and ready to go.
:)

That's a useful bit of info.. thanks for that!

I would like to know what the mods to the turbo actually are...?
Pressure the pistons are stronger, possibly forged..?
I'd love a DTM.. still bringing really good money!

turbo's are different, checked with audi and it is a specific turbo fitted to the bul, not the same as other engine codes.

i'm not sure what the difference is, audi maintain it is a different unit from the others , kinda make sense in a way as when they replaced my complete turbo manifold etc last year under warranty they had my car for almost 2 weeks to do the job, mainly as they had to order the part from the factory in Germany as it wasn't stocked anywhere else, from memory they took a week to get the correct turbo assembly alone, other turbo units were stocked but not for the BUL engine, maybe just an oddity but I suspect someone has stripped one down and compared it to the others.
